I have experienced the beginnings of what is surely a scam. I stopped corresponding after the scammer's second email but I still do not understand the scammers angle. I suspect it might have ben leading to identity theft but I really do not know. Can anyone shed any light on where this might have been going?

I have a small online shop selling one-opf-a-kind handmade goods. Via a (spam filtered) online form on my website I got a message asking if I was happy to ship to Tokyo and accept American Express cards. The English was poor but I it very much appeared to be written by a person. I think this because it mentioned my name and a specific product by name (page title). So I was suspicious but thought this could be a real sale. I replied saying yes I was happy to ship to Tokyo and that all my online payemnts were managed by Paypal.

I then got a second email which named two products. The sender wanted to buy these but have them shipped by their usual 'trusted' shippers. They gave me an email address and asked me to send my address details and to arrange pick up.

At this point I stopped any correspondance. BTW The shipping company do not exist.

Regards, Piman

They could be testing a stolen credit card to be sure it is good.
