Hello Everyone!

I recently applied to something similar than this, but I just realized it's a scam. I have a few questions though. For one, how would they receive any money? And also, what happens if I just tear up the check and ignore the guy and just go on thinking nothing of it? I'm just curious as to if anything else can go badly or if there is something I should take care of.

They ask you to evaluate a Western Union or MoneyGram location, and to do so you need to wire money. They send you a check, tell you to cash it, use that money to wire and evaluate the store . . . then, about a week later the bank will find out the check is counterfeit and you will be liable for the money.

That would be the BEST thing that you could do!

Hi all.

Unfortunately, I fell victim to this scam just last week......deposited the check last sunday and transfered the money/went to walmart on thursday........hard-earned $1,700 down the drain.

Got my 2nd check today worth $2,500. I was about to deposit it when I stumbled upon this site. I thank you guys for having this site.....saved me a couple thousands!!!!

Meanwhile, that first check has yet to bounce and I will be contacting my bank tomorrow. I just hope that I don't get arrested or anything of that nature....I have already contacted western union and they have submitted my concern to the fraud department..
After contacting my bank, should I call the local police?

Thanks again for this site.....saved me from being even more of an idiot and I hope it continues to save others!!

okay thank you very much.

I called my bank and they are looking into my account and will just debit that amount (since i have the funds) without charging a bouncing fee....so that's done.

Just have a question......I have read everywhere (and logically) these guys cannot be caught due to fake names/addresses, other jurisdictions, etc and you cannot get your money back........so why file a police report? They obviously can't do much other than get the original cheque back for evidence....but it won't lead them to anywhere....just curious.

In the past we have seen cases where the victims have been arrested . . . some banks pressed charges saying that the victim knew it was a counterfeit check and was trying to pull a fast one on the bank . . . but if you have placed a police report you have a "paper trail" that shows YOU are the victim.

alright thanks for the reply.

if you notify the bank, saying that you believe it's fake, before they discover it, you should be safe though right?

Safe from being arrested? Your chances are better, but I have heard of victims who call the bank and tell them, and then the bank asks them to come in so that they can "work things out with them" and then when the customer arrives they find that the bank has the police waiting there to take them to jail.

I am glad that you found this site before he sent you a check.

I would block his email address, and if the ad is still online notify the website and see if they will take it down.

Wow. I got the e-mail from Larry Adams too, and I submitted my all the info EXCEPT that I changed my address slightly, so that the address I gave him is one number different from my actual address (an address that technically doesn't exist). I sniffed a scam, but if he has my name, birth year, and city, phone number, do I have anything to worry about from this guy? He's not gonna try to track me down or anything is he? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
