I was scammed by a man (claims to be a businessman on a mission to Accra to claim property belonging to his late father (who was in the jewelry business)) that goes by the name of Andrew Smith - about 48 years old -- currently in Accra, W Africa -- out of a huge sum of money. His usage of the English language is articulate and seems to be well educated. Claimed to have a house in Dallas, TX and to have lived in Warren, PA.... Of course, none of this information can be verified... His current IM address is busylap@yahoo.com and his old IM is flexxxchin@yahoo.com ..... If anyone has information on this jerk you would like to share with me I would appreciate it.... I also have photos of him... Thank you.

He's probably another scammer from Africa. There are thousands of them. They change their names and all other info very often.

Becca,
Thanks for posting the info that you did. Often when a person thinks that they may be talking to a scammer they will do a google search on the person's name, email address, phone number or some other information that was given, and if that info is posted here the search will lead them to your message and they will know that he is a scammer.

just so both of you know, it still could be the same person if you have only had email contact . . . they find pictures of models online and use those as the pictures of themselves.

Anyway, it does not really matter if it is the same guy or not, just that you see the red flags of the scam. Thank you both for posting info here . . . it could save someone else!

rand/don,
I edited your last post and took out your email address. This is another way scammers find their victims . . . they surf the net and find email addresses posted on site. On our site, people can always contact you via the "email" button under every one of your posts, so there is never a reason to post your email address.

On to the scammers . . .
Many of them are in Nigeria.
Yes, they steal the photos of people from other sites. They don't want their real face out there, and it is easier to pull of a romance scam if you are a good looking person.

Could they all be the same person? Could be. More likely is that they all work in different "rings". They are all doing the same thing, and each "ring" has it's own letter/story/pictures. There could be 5 guys in the one ring pretending to be Mike Brown. They could all be using the same pictures.

It does not really matter if the pictures or the names match . . . they are all fake.

Another site on this topic you might want to check out is
http://(Site Not Approved To Post)/

Tell them we sent you there. They know us over here.

Hi there! I can't believe what I just read on your post. I found this site by accident. I am presently communicating with a man who call himself Benjamine williams. He gave me the same story as your Andrew Smith. He said that he is a jeweler. Mother from Norway and Dad from the US. His wife and son died in a car accident three years ago and he has a surviving 7yr old son who is living with him. He said that his mom and dad died and left him the business. I have not lost any thing to him yet except for my time and emotions. I was just concern about his constant request for my address. I am glad that my instinct led me to this site. It was my last stop before giving in to his demands. He give me the "I love you sweetie" routine and "you don't love and trust me like I love and trust you". I met him on Black Babyboomerspeoplemeet.com. He mentioned to me that he has a driver that takes his son to school and picks him up. I think this is the same guy. Does anyone else has other pictures of this person? I would sure like to see it.

I believe I may have a couple of more picture of Andrew Smith.... what yahoo address is he using with you? At one time he told me he had a driver/worker that helped at his mine by the name of Daniel Agyei. I have not heard from this jerk in 15 days. The last time we chatted he stated he was critical, almost unconscious, and starving to death. If someone contacted me it would be to give me bad news. Do not send anything....

nearmiss . . .
I would report this to the site that you met him on. They may block his account or post a warning, and then OTHER people that he has been talking to will know it is a scam.

Also, please DO post his email address, phone number, mailing address or any other information that he gave you on this site. It could help other people find us just like you did!

And to both nearmiss and becca . . . if the pictures match or not does not really matter. The scammers could be using multiple pictures, and I bet NONE of them are really of the person on the other side of the computer screen. I could go and set up an account calling myself "Angie Jo" and find a picture of Angelina Jolie out there on the internet and use it with my account . . . that does not mean that I am her . . . do you get what I mean? And even if the wording is the same, when the scammers work in these "rings" they all have the same script to use so yes, their wording will be the same. Going back to the Angie Jo example, I could find something that she really DID say out there on the internet and use it . . . now I have her name, picture and I am using phrases that people have publicly heard her saying . . . it still does not mean that I am her.

Wow! I just became a member of eHarmony and was matched with someone named Raymond who's supposed to live in Port Hueneme, California. We went through 4 stages of guided communication and then to open communication, at which point he sent me the email address busylap@yahoo.com . Because eHarmony tells us to be cautious and check the backgrounds of people we meet, I went to do a reverse lookup of that email address and bam! it brought me here.
Wow. Thank you so much for this site. I will see what his next move is.
He posted a photo of someone who looks Hispanic and identifies himself as Hispanic. He posted another photo of the same man holding two little African or African-American children in his arms, and when I asked him about the photos only said they were taken at a client's wedding. (It would seem I can't copy the photos from the site.)
Again, thank you for ScamVictimsUnited!
