A couple of years ago I was contacted by a "David Larrison" at my small custom picture framing business. He wanted pricing for cases of glass. At some point during the exchange of e-mail and telephone calls he informed me that the glass was to be used for windows in a church I believe somewhere in South Africa. Why someone would want to use picture glass for windows was beyond me, but he insisted that it is what he wanted. I was very suspicious. Why not go to a local manufacturer instead of a small business in Canada for this order? He gave me a Visa number over the phone. I didn't even attempt to run it through my terminal. I just told him it was declined. Then he gave me another number. I did the same thing again. Then he gave me another. And yet another. And they were all sequential numbers.

I went to the bank, called Visa, and nobody seemed to care. Unbelievably frustrating. My business partner told me to run the cards through and see what happens. They went through. No red flags were raised, no alarms rang. But still I had a bad feeling about it. "Mr. Larrison" called me many times asking if I contacted his shipper yet, and I kept putting him off saying I was waiting for clearance from the bank for the credit card charges.

After a couple of weeks I was contacted by Visa about some fraudulent charges. I told them what was going on and that I had contacted them earlier to see if the cards were stolen but nobody cared. Luckily I didn't order the glass from my supplier or worse yet contact his shipper. I would have been out a few thousand dollars instead of the small percentage I got charged by my POS provider. The cost of a lesson learned.

I had the police involved, but nothing seemed to happen. Unfortunately, an electronics store nearby was also contacted by the same guy and wound up shipping out a lot of merchandise.

Today I received an e-mail from Mr. Bryan Moore requesting pricing for 88 picture frames. What to do? What to do?

Thank you for coming to our site and sharing your story. It is sad when you feel like you are trying to do the "right" thing by reporting these criminals, and no one seems to care. These people are breaking laws, but since they live in another country and it would be the law enforcement THERE that would have to go after them and DO something about it so many people just turn their heads and say "Too bad . . . nothing we can do." I say that is WRONG! There are things we can do

Educate other about scams
Put up warning signs at businesses that scammers use
Change the laws so that there is more protection for the consumer

That is just my short list.

We should set our eyes to all forms of fraud. Wicked people are just around the corner doing everything to earn big amounts of money. Online stores sometimes cannot be easily trusted for there are scammers waiting to hack or scam all the information especially your credit card.
