Post subject:  I need advice for a potential scam at Craigslist

Hello all. I'm glad to come across this forum. Great forum you guys have here.

I am trying to sell my vehicle at Craigslist and came upon two consecutive prospective buyers that are in a similar position.

My concern is that I have a new buyer who is the same situation as my last buyer who backed out.

Both wanted to purchase the vehicle and is located out of state. I tried to request for cash but both informed me that their credit union bank has only a maximum of $10K/day.

I turned down the first buyer since he said that he mailed the check directly to my Automobile Bank and he wanted to get the car and bill of sale prior to the check clearing. So transaction was cancelled but the bank did receive a personal check. I instructed the bank not to process the check.

Well my second buyer plans to fly in tomorrow. He said that he will bring a Cashier's check from his credit union payable to my automobile's financial institution. He offered that we can both call the credit union to confirm that the funds are good. He would then want to get the vehicle and bill of sale so he can drive it back to his state. One positive thing is that the bank will forward the title documents to me directly which I will eventually forward to the new owner.

Now to the question. Are you guys familiar with a scam like this? Could be a coincidence but two consecutive prospective buyers who are really interested without even seeing the vehicle and are in the similar situation and time constraints (Don't want to wait for the cashier's check to clear). Is there something I can do as a precautions such as a contract which stipulates the conditions signed and notarized? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I would NOT enter into a transaction with someone who said that they cannot wait for the check to clear . . . heck, the bank will tell you it is clear in 24 hours (but they don't tell you that you are still liable)

I say don't do it.
