Hello,

I'm a recent victim of a tutor scam where I paid for online tutoring. I stupidly paid for a tutor service upfront for help on a research paper. Since, the paper was due in 12 hours, they had me sign up for the Premium Package. Being a trusting individual I did this. We did some communication through the phone and by e-mail. Once the payment went through I sent the tutor some material where he said he's assist drafting an outline. This is where the stall tactics began. First he had to take his daughter to the dentist (3hrs no communication), then he had to take a nap, and finally with about 6 hours before my deadline, I received an e-mail stating that he had to be rushed to the hospital.
This is when I realized I had been scammed. I posted negative reviews for Westside-Tutoring on Merchant Circle (now a known spam outfit) and yahooLocal. I also filed a complaint with the BBB and a dispute with PayPal. This resulted in a subtly threatening e-mail stating he would report me for academic dishonesty to my school if I did not remove the PayPal dispute.

I've stood my ground but I feel like I'm getting in over my head. This scammer has looked up my address and made it known that unless the PayPal dispute is dropped there will be consequences. I'm not sure what this guy is capable of but it appears he's part of a larger organization. Also it's been 2 days since I posted the negative reviews and they have since been deleted on the web. I have received many veiled threats from this person and I fear for my online and personal safety. Any advice you have would be appreciated. I'm not sure if I should go to the authorities. These crooks need to be stopped but by whom?

How did you find this person? If you have records of what you paid for and he did not provide the services that you paid for then you have the right to fight him on that.
