I find it a bit alarming that I can't find any contact information for your group on your website. I work at a library and had a patron ask me to find that information for her. Any help appreciated.

what kind of contact info do you need, your patron could contact the founders of this site on this site through private message (PM). Why would someone who has been scammed before post their full names, phone number(s), and email address out in the open for potential scammers to take? Plus posting that info on the net is just not safe.

You took the words right out of my mouth russellj84 :)

When we first started the site, we had contact information under the donation section

http://www.scamvictimsunited.com/donations.htm

but then we did get LOTS of junk mail (snail mail and email), email viruses were sent to us, and we got strange hang up phone calls at all hours of the day. So, for the safety of ourselves, our family and this site, we removed that information. Now, if anyone wants to contact us they register to the message board and use the PM or email buttons attached to the admin user name in the members list. (This is how most of the members of the media who we have worked with have gotten a hold of us)

So, how can I help you, or the patron of your library?

Thank you for your answers. My patron does not have computer access and is currently not capable of visiting the library. They wanted a snailmail address to contact you. They had been told that your group might be for more than just online scams. I read them part of your mission statement but they still wanted to try to contact you which is why I posted in the first place. (We try to go the little bit extra mile for folks that can't make it into the library).

One of the things we tell people when they are evaluating websites for their use is to look for some way to contact folks other than online, because if there isn't any way then chances are that the website it not a reputable one.

I don't want to cause you to get spam, but surely a post office box wouldn't be out of the question. If you're a volunteer organization that perhaps that should also be more prevalently mentioned.

Actually, we had one for two or three years, but the only thing that we got was "junk" mail, so we were paying for a PO box, just to pick up junk mail every month. It seemed like a waste of money, especially since this entire site is founded, run/operated and funded by my husband and myself. People often assume that there is a sizable group of people working on this, but really it is myself and my husband, along with the help we get from our Board Moderators and the Gold Members of board who help us to keep up with the flood of questions.

Code:

I often joke with my husband that the "board" voted on something and he got out voted . . . the "board" being me, myself and I

We would love to grow to the point of assisting ALL scam victims, not just those on the internet, and to have a real staff of employees and volenteers.

What kind of information was your patron looking for, besides contact information? What type of scam were they a victim of?

So why don't you relay the information between your patron and this site. There are plenty of people on here that are willing and able to help out, not just the admin. I like your advice of a website not being reputable if they don't have contact information as that is great advice for sites asking for money or are selling something, but don't think that really applies to this site since the founders are not asking for money or selling anything so Shawn not posting her information here doesn't make this informative site any less reputable.

Scammers do visit these sites and will attack them with viruses, spam, etc if the site puts a big enough dent in their business so if Shawn can prevent that by not putting up personal information then so be it.
