We had a run of these as forum spam over at CCO between 19th June to 4th July. Banned and removed 15 users as a result of the attack.

Some of the spams actually contained real compromised credit card data and details of victims.

Most came from Ghana [41.218.224.0 - 41.218.255.255] & [41.210.0.0 - 41.210.31.255], with one from Vietnam and one from Malaysia.

They were very persistant, but after catching and banning a few of them before they could post, they stopped trying. Not sure what triggered the attack, but glad it subsided without us having to resort to country IP banning (again).

I just banned one yesterday that I think was the main cause of this.

I have often said it would be nice if we could ban an entire country, since that is where many of the scammers are coming from. I might need to talk to you about this at some point.
