Post subject:  Bank of the West Scam

I just recieved an email from Bank of the West telling me my account would be deactivated and bill pay would no longer be available if I did not renew my info. The link does not take you into the Bank of the West website, so please be careful. I do not use Bank of the West to begin with, but for those of you who do, keep this one in mind.

This is a Phishing scam, they want your account information and if you are an account holder at the bank they will hit the jackpot.

NEVER EVER answer such emails, no bank will EVER ask you for this information, nor will they ever call you and ask you for your full information over the phone.

Just received the same mail. Me, as well as you are, am not a BoW client. Shall we enter fake details?

I also reported this problem to Bank Of The West after calling them and asking them why they wanted me to renew my E-time Banker on line. I did not know forsure if this was an attempt to steal my Identity. However I sent the scamers a nasty letter telling them If they were infact "Bank Of The West" They had no business deactivating anything without my permission. And that if they did infact try to do this without my verbal permission they would be paying and late charges. I Only sent a nasty reply and did not go to their regestration sight. Instead I phoned Bank Of The West and asked them Why they thought they had the right to just deactivate my services like that. The woman pointed out that This was NOT their E-mail and to report it at The abuse@bankofthewest.com I am glad I did not give out my info...I wonder just how meny people do.

What you experienced was a Phishing Scam they want your identity when they do this. The ploy is to get you in a panic mode thinking you will lose your account and your money if you do not verify the details with them.

People when panicing do not always think as clear as you did and they go ahead and pump their identity right into the hands of a thief. Soon their account is dry and they have not a clue what happened.

BTW if you think you are in the clear by not responding think again, if I were you I would be checking for viruses on your computer, as many of these emails come with embedded viruses. Trojans, spyware etc. From now on keep a firewall invoked as well.
