Post subject:  Reporting?

Ok so I have reviewed the boards and I am not seeing this question answered although there is so much to sift through I may have easily missed it.

I am but I am not a victim here. I am concerned because I assume I will be eventually be getting a check from these people because I didn't find this site until after I had provided them with my address. My story is that I have a room available to rent, this "jennifer perry" answered my add...but it seemed fishy.

So I hesitate to "report" I have been scammed as I haven't lost money. It also seems like the FBI or whatever agency could use my "opening" to catch these people but how to get my info to the right sources I don't know. Obviously the email address isn't helpful but it seems like where ever they want the money wired would be of help to them.

What do you do if you get this check? Do I just "return to sender" on the envelope if the FBI or whoever can't use this information?

Thanks for any help regarding what to do here.

I would start in the FAQ section

I already read the FAQ section. The section you referenced did not apply to me because I have not lost any money. I did look through all the FAQ and it did not seem like anything applied to me as I haven't lost any money. Please don't assume that because I am new to this particular board I am unable to at least read the FAQ. I understand you have a lot of traffic on this site and that you created this to help people but your comments were very unhelpful and it seemed like you really did not read my question.

Sorry if my comments did not help the first time around.

If you have not lost any money and have not yet even gotten the check, then when you do get it I would shred it up and block the scammers email address.

Thanks. 8)
It looks like Police agencies and the FBI etc will not be interested in using this opportunity to help them, as I can't even find a way to really report it. I did fill out the secret service online notice but seems like it will just fall into a black hole.

I am VERY glad this site exists for victims. It appears to be a rampant problem.

Perhaps in the future there can be a section for people who "escaped" but want to help.

BTW I did also put a credit alert on my accounts with Equifax just to help reinforce protecting my address and name. No guarantees but I am pretty vigilant about my credit because I have had people in the past with my "same" name try to use my history. One woman actually took my work history off a board at the hospital I used to work at and used it to get herself an apartment. One of those friendly "these are your therapists" and a small blurb about how many years they worked for the hospital.

It's amazing what people get away with doing. Worse yet is that several women that have my "name" have the same doctors I do so they can potentially get mixed up with me. I am forever educating front desk clerks that they should NOT ask me if my number (SS# phone, etc)is.... but ask people to provide it to them instead.

Good luck with your efforts to make the public more aware of these scammers.

That is a great idea. I would love to talk to you more, maybe through private message or email, about this and what you might suggest as good info to include.

Hello..I had the exact same questions. I was frauded by a John Kendrich 2500$ in February. I must say , he was really good. Now I got another email from a Vicky Williams. I played his game and he send me two checks. I have 3 frauded checks now...who can I send them to? I don't find the links that are given helpful at all to report. In needs to be easy for us to report. My local police said they don't handle these things.....
