I am new to this site looking for answers and frustrated by multiple bad experiences with roommate posting sites that have done nothing but take money from me. Last year, I posted a room for rent on Roommates.com--- got several obvious 'scam' inquiries (that I reported to officials) - and this year, as I need to have another roommate (to watch over and share my place while I am traveling on work) - I posted on Roommates.com, Easyroommate.com and Roomster.com. ALL OF THEM-- of course, gladly took my money right away - and one is even forcing automatic monthly deductions from my credit card--- yet NONE OF THEM has provided any success-- only MORE AND MORE SCAMMERS--- even if I have been diligent in placing ads, contacting 'members' etc-- I have resulted only in loss of more and more money- NOTE: I have a slightly upscale townhome, clean, in a very good neighborhood with great ammenities (schools, shopping, etc) nearby- and I opted for all options except no smoking (am easy-going)--
My question-- are ALL ROOMMATE WANTED SITES SIMPLY SCAM SITES TO TAKE MONEY FROM US??? And there is no where for me to turn to get any money back! (now going into hundreds of dollars)--- When I wrote to them to complain- they refuse to answer me!!!

It is not the site, it is the people using the site. We see the same problems with scams coming off of Craigslists, or the long list of dating sites out there.
