Hello everyone! I was scammed over roommates.com and have been on the board for a month, maybe 2. I wrote a letter/story down and have started sending my story to my local police, Secret Service, etc. the places recommended as per the 2nd post on here but seems as if I am not getting anywhere. Because the person was in Nigeria, the Secret Service pretty much has stopped contact with me saying they can't help me or fill out a report. The local police say since the Secret Service are involved to stick with them. I did skip steps and sent my letter/story to Fraud-Aid.com for assurance purposes that I had a fight before sending to the Attorney General. I never received anything back from Fraud-Aid.com. I feel like since I am getting such resistance or being ignored that I am stuck in mud. I am sure everyone has felt like this at some point. Another question or comment; how do I find out if a lawyer is in my state (SC) dealing with this?

Looking for a little light at the end of the tunnel.

I can understand how you feel, I was there once myself. And I did notice that it was not until I started to get some media attention on our story that things really started to get rolling. Send your letter to every media source in your area. We did TV, newspaper (large city and small town) and radio interviews. And they did not come easy. I was calling or emailing them weekly with our story and the latest update on the direction the bank had taken.

Make sure to contact The Attorney General's Office in your state. Refer them to this story on the Iowa Attorney General's office website
http://www.state.ia.us/government/ag/latest_news/releases/feb_2003/nig_scam.html

Contact the mail server that they scammer used and report that the email account is being used for criminal activity.

Don't just send the letter out and wait for them to contact you. If you can find a phone number call them and make sure they got your letter and ask to speak with someone. When this happened to us I was on the phone or emailing people about this all day every day for weeks before we got our first big break.

Don't give up!
