Post subject:  Roommate Scam and then Spam

I placed an add on Craigslist for a roommate and received several obvious scams. After the first one and after Googling their info to discover the nature of the scam I stopped all communication with all of them. Good thing I didn't loose any money. I doubt I would have followed through on sending them money anyway, but you never know.

However, I am now inundated with spam mostly from .co.uk and .net.uk addresses. As soon as I opened up communication with these turkeys they apparently put me on spam lists.

Now I am forced to block all email coming from a .uk address. Not as bad as loosing money but still very annoying.

Now I won't even respond to someone unless they are local and don't sound desperate.

Next time I will create a proxy email address as well that I can delete after to avoid all this spam.

This is an excellent idea for anyone to do. When using any site for whatever reason it is better to set up a proxy email account for it. This way when you no longer need the email address you can just dump it. Just be sure not to use any personnal information when setting it up.
