Hello;

I just responded to an apartment I saw for rent on Craig's List. There were photographs of the apartment; it looked beautiful and at SUCh a reasonable rate. It seemed too good to be true, so as a naturally curious person (and real estate professional myself), I responded.

First of all, there was no name, phone number or e-mail address listed in the post, so I tried to send an e-mail through the Craig's List link and it didn't go through. It kept bouncing back as undeliverable. I thought maybe the post was so new the link wasn't fully functioning, so I tried it again and again, but each one kept bouncing back. I then sent it from another of my e-mail accounts and it did not come back undeliverable. I had no way of knowing if it even worked.

A few days later, I was clearing out my spam folder and saw a response. I guess it went through after all from my second account. The person really didn't answer my specific questions about the apartment, but gave me a run down of all the same info about the apartment. She also attached a rental application in PDF format. Also, at the bottom of the e-mail, she had her name and a "property management" firm name, which was her name (Alexandra Hughes, of Alexandra Hughes Properties). I responded with the same specific questions, and got no response.

Two days later, the same e-mail (same wording) came through from the same e-mail address (sqperry@gmail.com), but this time it was signed by Samantha Perry of Samantha Perry Properties. It also had a rental application attached.

I have NOT opened these files because it's obviously some sort of set up, but I don't know what. Has anyone else gotten similar responses from responding to an apartment for rent ad on Craig's List?

Thanks,
Cee

My guess is that they will ask you to wire them money for the apartment, but it is a fake address/apartment . . . they just find nice pictures online and use them. In the end you will be out the money.

I got the same response from the this Samantha Perry person. Se did not answer any of my specific questions nor did she give me any contact info. The response she sent was rehearsed. I was curious so I tried to look her up on the internet and it brought me to this sight.

Hey, yea I had the same thing happen to me. It seems that there are many scams on Craigslist.com. I requested more information about an apartment that like you said, seemed too good to be true. Then I recieved an email back from Samantha Perry Properties with an attatched .pdf rental application. I did not open the rental application because something didn't seem right. I went back and tried to open the page again on Craigslist and it came up as "Flagged for Removal" along with alot of the posts on there.

This is so sad. The apartment was so cute. So perfect. I though it was a little odd... Too affordable to include rent, water, electricity. I wish I could really find these apartments for rent. :[ You can tell they are really nice.
Anyways. My response was from Courtney Brooks Properties for anyone that may be trying to research their sender.

Hello,

I sent a response to a $540 1 bdr condo in new haven, Ct. I received a response from a Samanthat Perry Properties. She had not answered anything I had asked but instead told me after listing a long general list of items in the house, told me that she was over whelmed with responses. She sent an PDF file appl and I opended it to see what it was. It was a restricted app that you can not copy not save and send. You can type your information in but you are suppose to print and fax it. yet she gave no fax number to contact number, so i closed out everything and deleted it all. It seemed a little out there. It did have a link inside the app that sent you to the credit agencies experian, and two others though. I checked out that site and it was the actual site and secure. So that was weird. I dont know.
Thanks
Rene

Here is the email I keep receiving when I try to get information on the condos these scammers have listed:

From: This sender is DomainKeys verified"Samantha Perry" <syperry@gmail.com>Add sender to ContactsTo: contains attachmentsRental Application.pdf (77KB)Hi and thank you for your interest,

My inbox was flooded yesterday with inquiries so I’ll do my best to answer some of the questions:

1) Cable, wireless internet, heat, water, and electricity are included in the monthly rental fee.

2) The security deposit amount depends on your credit score.

3) Move-in can begin as early as next month.

4) I haven’t gotten around to taking more pictures yet but I will be taking groups of interested parties for showings later this week.

Due to the overwhelming response I’ve included a preliminary rental application for any interested parties. I only want to converse with people who are serious about actually moving into this property. So if you are interested in a showing and further information, please fill out the attached application and email it to me so that I can get back to you soon.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Samantha Perry
