What about all the people who don't find this thread?

I can only assume that they will get a check from him and try to cash it, and then become a scam victim.

What does this guy want?

He wants your money. Once you agree to rent the space to him, he will send you a cashier's check for the rent/deposit, but it will be for more than the agreed on amount. He will do one of several things . . . ask you to wire the overage back to him, tell you that the extra is to pay for the shipping of his items to the apartment and ask you to wire it on to the person who is taking care of that, or something will come up and he will have to back out of the deal and then ask you to wire the entire amount back to him since he will no longer be renting the space. The problem is that it will take a week or more for the bank to find out that the check is counterfeit, and by then you have already wired the money off to him, so the bank will come after YOU to pay it back.

Has anyone been able to locate the person(s) behind this to have a stop put to it?

90% of the time, the people running these scams are in another country, so there is not much that can be done to stop them.

Thanks
I sent him a note that I was suspiscious it was a scam and have heard nothing since. Darn!!! I wish I had waited as should have taken the cheque to the RCMP, and apparently they would have investigated. If oracle find these guys, I don't think they will have happy days ahead. If people use the US postal system to send fraudulent funds, USPS can have them put in jail for using them as a vehicle for the fraud. I don't know if Canada Post exercises their muscles in the same way.
Best Wishes

Believe it or not the first inkling I had of a scam was when I read that he could find a better paying job in Canada than the UK. Ha as if! I looked up the company name and it didn't exist. Googled his email address and found this thread. I truly hope that he does not scam anyone else; remind everyone you know posting on classified ads to be diligent and Google any information they provide. This guy must be stopped!!!

Meighan
I am curious. What province are you in? I am wondering if he is just targetting BC or the whole country?
Since I placed my ad I have been getting piles of unsolicited junk emails from all kinds of people selling drugs and offering other 'great' deals. It is all very strange.

I am almost 100% sure that this latest thread from a chinese company (which has nothing to do with our topic of cons) is a hack which got into a friends computer and sent out massive emails to all his contacts...including me. DO NOT GO TO THIS SITE.

He is doing all of Canada now. I just received the same email in Quebec. He is now going by Jamie Alan and the company is Cross Bow Tech which doesn't even have offices in Canada.

Thanks for this thread as it helped.

I am glad to see that Craigslist is putting more info out there about these scams, with these warnings in the emails. They used to just have the More Info page, which people would only find AFTER they became a victim of a scam.
