What you are suggesting is called scam baiting. If you are going to do that, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. I would recommend going to http://www.419eater.com/ to learn more about this.

Hi,

Same thing happened to me and my husband. We posted an ad on Craigslist and the next day we got replies via e-mail. They both had similair vocabulary and sounded broken. Here are the e-mail addresses that they came from:

mindymint202@yahoo.com
jenicollins20@yahoo.com
jessy.moore101@gmail.com

I can't believe that I almost feel for this. This should be illegal. How can we stop it? I tried using the IP address tracker but none of them come up with an IP. They are false headings.

Hi
I'm,female, and i am from spain, specifically malaga.I speak both English and Spanish fluently, and i am 27years of age.I am currently working with the Federal Agency of Works and Natural Resources in Spain.I am currently on a reseach programme, and i am desperately looking for a place to stay.I read your profile about the room and i would really want to secure the room before my arrival, and more so to know if it would be possible for me to pay for the room before my arrival,So i will like to know the total amount of the room per month and the utility included. All these information are very important so that i can submit my proposal to my Organization. My Organization will be responsible for all the fees and the payment will be by United State money order.
I will need the following information to get the payment to you.

(1) Full name as it will appear on the payment.
(2) Address
(3) phone number

I am glad that you did the google search and found our site.

I would block the scammer's email address so that they no longer bug you. If they have your phone number and call, block their phone number too.

You can sign a petition we have asking for scam education and awareness programs to be created.

http://www.change.org/petitions/view/cr ... s_programs

Here is a list of other resources and important information.

It depends on your provider. Call them and ask if you can have international calls block.

Blocking unwanted calls on a cell phone

How To Block Incoming Calls on Your Sprint - Try This
Here you will learn the steps by which you will take in order to block those unwanted incoming calls on a Sprint phone. So if you are tired of getting solicitation calls on your cell phone or just plain tired of hearing from that special someone, here is how you do it!

1 Step One : On your menu screen scroll to settings.
2 Step Two : Select settings and scroll to security.
3 Step Three: Select security and you will be prompted to enter a lock code. The lock code is usually the last four numbers of your phone number.

4 Step Four : Once you have entered your lock code, scroll to "Limit Use" and select that option.

5 Step Five : Once you have selected the "limit use" option it will provide you with a menu which includes, "restrict incoming calls" or "restrict outgoing calls."

6 Step Six : Now that you have selected "restrict incoming calls," there should only be 3 options, "All," "None," or "Except Contacts."

If you select "All," then obviously all calls are blocked, "None" then no calls are blocked, "Except Contacts," then only calls that are not on your contact list will be blocked (the preferred selection).

You may want to try this on the cell phone you are using. It just might work.

-------------

AT&T Smart Limits for Wireless. There is a $4.99 charge per month for this service.

AT&T Smart Limits for Wireless does not block any incoming calls except for calls from numbers you designated as Blocked Numbers.

Below is a link that will get you to AT&T's home page.

http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/artic ... -controls/

-----------

T-Moble

Per my friend who was scammed.

T-Moble will block incoming calls. You will need to provide them with the number you want blocked. They can also block ALL international phone numbers. You will need to call customer service and request the block. There is a one time charge for this service.

----------
You may want to call your service provider to see if they have options such as the ones listed above.

BLOCKING UNWANTED SCAMMER TEXTS ON A VERIZON CELL PHONE

Below is a link for Verizon. Someone had made a post about blocking text messages. I am not sure if the link will work for blocking phone calls.

https://text.vzw.com/customer_site/secu ... Method=GET

This is a secure site for Verizon customers...and Verizon Customer Service doesn't know this option is available so don't bother calling 611.

You can block texts sent from up to 15 different Individual emails, websites, domain names, or wireless nicknames. My scammer is sending texts from Yahoo Email or IM, both of which work from the same addy so I just entered that addy. And its done!

I'm beginning to think roommates.com is all scamming, I see the same people that are looking for rooms, they will send me emails when I don't pay for a listing, so I give in and pay and they say there interested and leave a phone number and when I call there's some reason they cant talk and say they will call back and never do, so when my subscription expires boom next day I have emails again when I haven't seen any over a week, same thing highly interested emails. When I finally do find someone usually on craigslist, months will go by like 6 months and when I look again same people saying looking for a room. I think it's all a scam

Dear Roomie,

How are you doing? fine and hope you are having a wonderful day,Anyway i must tell you that am really happy about the information provided, and i will want you to know that i'm really interested in renting the place from you and i won't take any chance in losing it.All i will want you to do for me is to please remove the advert from the sites as i will not want to lose it to another person.I' ve contacted my organization personnel manager that will be responsible for the payment and he said he is okay by it and he promised to make the payment out to you via a money order.

I will also want to inform you that i will be shipping over little of my bedroom furnitures and my car that my organization gave when i was promoted as Humanitarian officer and my boss as promised to include the money for the shipment with the money for the rent fees,so as soon as the shippers came to deliver my things, you will help me to give them the remaining money at the point of there delivery after you may have deducted the money for the rent fees.

Hope you can really understand this?i will really appreciate if you can do this for me,please do get back to me with your decision so that my boss can get the payment send to you as soon as possible.

Hope to read from you soon and will get intouch with you as soon as the payment as been sent.

Your's truly,

Deanna..

SO my Question is, can they really do anything harmful with this info? and What can we do to stop it!?

Just got a reply to my Craigslist ad:
Thanks for getting back to me and I read your posting on
Craigslist, and I am very interested in the room. It's in the perfect
location for me and it sounds like we could be great roommates. I will
be arriving the state by earlier of this month just let me know when
we can start the lease although i wont arrive to the state until 8th
of .May

About me: I'm Cindy Donovan female from Spain, specifically Malaga.i
am 28 years of age. I am currently working with the Federal Agency of
Works and Natural Resources . I am pretty quiet and neat, but not
obsessively so. I'm responsible and will pull my weight around
theapartment and pay bills on time. I like to cook, and it would be
great to have people to cook with or eat with, but it's definitely not
a requirement in a roommate. I don't smoke and I don't have any
pets.I've got a lot going on this year, so i won't be around the
apartment all that much. Mostly, I’d just like a place that I can come
home to and chill at the end of the day. I am social, though, and get
along well with most people. I probably won't have too many house
guests, but I would like to feel comfortable bringing friends over
once in awhile.

More so i would really want to secure the room before my arrival, and
more so to know if it would be possible for me to pay for the room
before my arrival, So i will like to know the total amount of the room
per month and the utility included. All these information are very
important so that i can submit my proposal to my Organization. My
Organization will be responsible for all the fees and the payment
.Please let me know if I can give you any more info that would be
helpful for making your decision. I will be more than happy if you
cantell me little about you too. I will also like to see more picture
of the room if possible.

Thanks & God bless
