I just very narrowly avoided this scam thanks to a caring and keen-eyed bank teller. Actaully western Unioned the money and called them to cancel it. Only lost the $150 WU fee.

Havent let on to the scammer that I've found out yet, though. They're expecting an email with a confirmation number tonight. Is there any way i can have the person arrested when they go to pick up the money? or perhaps as a milder payback, attach a virus to the next email i send them? Any ideas?

great site, btw. thanks to everyone who shared their stories.

what you are wanting to do is dangerous and could cause you more problems than it is worth since the scammers have your personal info and may try to hurt you. I would count your blessings with only losing the $150 and leave it at that.

I agree. There are other sites that do talk about scam baiting, like 419eater.com, but I personally have not gotten into that side of things.

I just think it isn't worth the time spent to bait people along or to make them mad, plus it is dangerous.

But if you are interested in baiting then I found http://www.thescambaiter.com to be rather amusing and focuses on baiting all types of scams and has good advice on how to do it. Oh and they offer a bot to help save time in baiting so your time is not wasted as much.

What I have done, on the advice of a facetious website something like SpamBaiting or whatever, is to post the following simple link.

DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK YOURSELF.
http://resources.on.nimp.org/
DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK YOURSELF.

The link opens a heinous number of windows for an indefinite amount of time. You basically have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete and end-process your browser to get it to stop.

So, it's no real harm, but you can imagine the Scammer's delight when you email them back with a positive reply, and they eagerly click your link (to your bank account? your landlord's survey? be creative!) only to be *punked*.

Anyway, just a suggestion.
