I just received the cashiers cheque, this person had me going for a while. What do you recommend I do from here, just start ignoring the e-mails and rip up the cheque?

Hey Martha,

I just want to get some more details before I start cashing random cheques.

Okay. So heres the deal. I need proof you are who you say you are. Send me a scan of your ID or your passport or another picture.

Why can't you pay for the plane ticket with your Visa or Mastercard? Who is John Smith? and why does he have to purchase the ticket?

You can definetly find a plane ticket for cheaper than $1850 USdollars. Why don't you try Zoom airlines.

Matty

Hello Matty,

Thanks alot for getting back to me,Like i said i am in Cyprus with my sick sister,i cant even leave the hospital premises.John Smith is My cousin, and he will be using the $1,850usd for My ticket and to pay my cargo company an upfront so they could ship in My Car..I dont want to tell to all this, that was why i had to summaries it...

The car i will be shipping in was given to me by my Boss last year as the Best employee of the year, its an Audi TT car.

Look Matty,How would you feel if you were called up for an emergency?

Matty, all am asking for is a favour,i feel we both get along easily, and all i want is for you to help me send the money to John,so he could help me get prepared,i will be in Canada on thursday..............why on earth do you think i will lie about not being me?is that possible?do people do that?.

I ant believe you dont trust me Matty?i dont really know waht to say at this moment, please let me know if you've sent the money,i believe we both will see on thursday.

Martha

The good thing is you became suspicious and looked into it before cashing it. Just tear it up and don't reply to any more emails from them. They'll get the message and quit trying to contact you anymore.

Glad to hear that you did not get scammed. If you want the scammer to stop bugging you, you could tell them that the bank told you that the check was counterfeit and it has been turned over to the FBI and Secret Service . . . that usually is enough to make them go away.

And yes, I would destroy the check.
