Post subject:  ROOMMATES.COM SCAM

Hi all... wish I had found this site three days ago!

I am one of the hundreds of people who was subject to the Roommate.com scam. I am feel ridiculously dumb and way to trusting.

I actually had already sent the money via Western Union, but when I got back to my house I had received an email from the fraud-ster, when she was supposed to be on a plane!!!! 5 mins later the Western Union Fraud Unit called me to warn me of the scam and I had the money transfer stopped and refunded back to my name!!!!

They say hindsight is 20/20 but honestly there were so many red flags!!!

I guess I was lucky that I only got stuck with a 200 dollar loss (western union charge), but I am happy to chalk that up to insurance on the rest of the $5000!!!!

Can we file a class action lawsuit on roommates.com? Is anyone willing to join if I can get it started? Keep posting your stories there really is strength in numbers.

You lost no money, only the fee from WU, and that moeny was not lost, you know who has it. You could not be part of any suit.

First off, I am glad that WU was able to help you and stop the money from going through.

Second, the reason that you would not be able to sue roommates.com is that they did not do anything wrong . . . it was the scammer who was using their site that is the one who wronged you.

If you would like to try and do something to bring attention to this scam and try (like many of us here are) to warn others before they fall victim to the scam this is what I would suggest you do.

Now that you have that letter ready . . . join our letter writing campaign to try and bring media attention to this scam.

Send detailed story with full contact information to
    ABC News
    7 West 66th Street
    New York, NY 10023

    And

Also, since I personally get many emails and phone calls from media across the country, if you are a victim who would be interested in speaking with the media please send me an email with the following information.
