I also received some emails from Spain responding to my add for a roommate.
here are a couple emails I got and most recent message:
Melissa Brookman <>

Thanks for getting back to me and I read your posting on Craigslist, and I am very interested in the room. It's in the perfect location for me and it sounds like we could be great roommates. I will be arriving the state by earlier of this month just let me know when we can start the lease although i wont arrive to the state until 29th of .May

About me: I'm Melissa Brookman female from Spain, specifically Malaga.i am 31 years of age. I am currently working with the Federal Agency of Works and Natural Resources . I am pretty quiet and neat, but not obsessively so. I'm responsible and will pull my weight around theapartment and pay bills on time. I like to cook, and it would be great to have people to cook with or eat with, but it's definitely not a requirement in a roommate. I don't smoke and I don't have any pets.I've got a lot going on this year, so i won't be around the apartment all that much. Mostly, I’d just like a place that I can come home to and chill at the end of the day. I am social, though, and get along well with most people. I probably won't have too many house guests, but I would like to feel comfortable bringing friends over once in awhile.

More so i would really want to secure the room before my arrival, and more so to know if it would be possible for me to pay for the room before my arrival, So i will like to know the total amount of the room per month and the utility included. All these information are very important so that i can submit my proposal to my Organization. My Organization will be responsible for all the fees and the payment .Please let me know if I can give you any more info that would be helpful for making your decision. I will be more than happy if you can tell me little about you too. I will also like to see more picture of the room if possible.

Thanks & God bless

I received the following scam email from, with an alias of "Patrick Mulcahy". I had posted a chair for sale on CL. He was the only inquiry, and did not call me after 2 days of no reply to him (should have been a clue). I just received this today, and will post more if I receive a scam check from this person.

Message from scammer at

That's great, thank you for getting back to me. Though I'll be using the services of a mover who will come for the pick up of the item on my behalf all because I'm currently away for a contracting Job but I will send a Check through my Bank to cover the cost of the items. The check will be delivered to you by a reliable courier company within 2-3 working days. Please do provide me with your full Name to be on the check and mailing address, and also indicate your final price, the Name that should be on check and finally a cell phone #. Kindly delete the posting because am serious in buying it, when the funds clears then we can arrange for the pick up asap.

Here are 2 more emails from "Patrick Mulcahy ( dated July 14, 2012 and July 17, 2012. I will update this file when the false cashier's check comes, if it ever does:

Received fake check (with postage due, no less) on Friday, July 20th. If I were to deposit this check ($1990) and remove the cost of the chair he claimed to be buying plus the $50 "for my trouble", I would be out $1765.00. I have reported this case at and will be contacting the police today for further direction. I have not touched the check with my hands in case an authority would be interested in dusting it for fingerprints. The return address on the envelope is:

Dana Hornaday
150 Harvey Bend Rd
Clayhole KY 41317-9004

The USPS envelope was mailed from Oak Park Village, IL. The check inside the envelope shows the payor as:

BSBC Management, LLC
BB Kings Blues Club-Memphis
149 Monroe Ave
Memphis, TN 38103

Issued by Iberia Bank, check number 1008 in the amount of $1990.00. Signer is "Brenda Demps" (I think). Dated 7/15/12.

Please contact me (poster, complainant) at the contact information provided if you are an authority and would like to collect this check. You will need to provide the jurisdiction you work for and your badge number. Thank you.
