Post subject:  IMPORTANT MATCH.COM SCAMMER!

I was on match.com for a few days and met Terry Bentz
He seemed very charming. His profile was that he was 47
living in Washington, a widower with a daughter, and a civil engineer. His
profile name on the site was shop9997. When we were communicating
he said he lived also in the UK. After about a week, he said he
was having to go to Nigeria as he had a project building a 70k road.
He claimed to have a 9 yr old daughter. The other day he called frantic
that his daughter had a terrible accident on the job site. He didn't normally
take her, but this day he had. He asked for money in the thousands. I knew
something right away was awry. I sent nothing and got on the internet. I found
his name as a scammer and all the information coincided
with what had been witnessed with others. The site was delphiFAQ.com
I have ceased all communication with him, but wanted to inform all of you about
him, as he is incredibly smooth. The photos on the site are a bit different but the
story is the same.

I am so glad this site is available. Thank goodness I didn't send money or an address.
and I am embarassed to say I had fallen hard. Real hard, when I look back there were
all kinds of red flags!!!! I didn't want to admit to them, like how quickly his love seemed
undying, one e-mail perfect spelling, next several mistakes (thought maybe he was just
in a hurry). He is unbelievably smooth!!! Stay Clear!!!

This is very common with scammers.

Anytime someone has to go to Nigeria it is a scam.

Another thing that seems to happen with scammers. I am glad you were able to find out he is a scammer and that you did not send money.

Please be sure to tell your family and friends about scammers and how they can protect themselve. Also you may want to sign the petition Shawn started for Scam awareness and education. You can find the link in her siggy.

Janez,

Thank-you for breaking down the main points!

Another important tidbit to watch out for is, a UK phone number usually
starts out with 44 for the country code, I learned that
+4470 numbers are a major red flag when it comes to scams!

Personal forwarding phone numbers (also called "UK global redirects") are easily recognized, and they are a major red flag when it comes to identifying scams or scammers. The number is often given in the format (4470)24013818. The country code, (the +44) seemingly indicates that the number is UK-based number. The 70 prefix, however, identifies it as a personal forwarding number, and that calls are often redirected to Nigeria
