Post subject:  Match.com scam...

I friend was just majorly scammed by what she thought was a businessman from NC. Well, he's really from Nigeria. He has taken a lot of money from her and she's really ashamed about the whole situation. He's now threatening her and somehow has all her vital info, including SS#.

Does she have any recourse? What do people do in this situation? She is scared...is a single mom with 2 children. She's changed her phone #, but he finds them...has even contacted her at work!

Please give me some advice I can give to her! Thank you!

Hi Nickle, sorry to read about your friend being scammed. First she needs to contact the SSN office in her town and explain what has happened. She may need to ask for a new SSN but not really sure if she will get one. Another thing she can do is contact the three major credit reporting agency and add an alert to her credit reports. This will protect her from anyone opening credit in her name. She can file a report with the IC3. http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx While they can not really help her get her money back at least there will be a record of it.

Ask her if she would be willing to post the information on the scammer.

Best of luck to your friend.
