No. This is a recovery scam. The site charges money to do background checks for you. Scammers steal innocent peoples identities quite often, so this site is completely useless. In fact, it looks very scammy to me.

I agree . . . save yourself the fees that they charge and post the info you have on this message board . . . either myself, one of the Moderators or trusted Gold Members will be able to tell you if it is a scam or not. And if you REALLY want to, you can send us a small donation as a thank you instead of paying the crazy fees at the other site listed.

The abve sit is a scam and you should not pay for basic information

For those who run into Romance Scammers I am a member of this site

http://www.romancescam.com/forum/portal.php

Your admin found it after it was featured on Oprah and posted a link to this site. There are 1000s of scammers from all over the globe listed there and the methods used and tell tale signs discussed. The two main areas it deals with are West African and FSU (Former Soviet Union) scams.

If you are metting an asian or Filipino on line then I suggest you visit

http://www.dragonladies.org/

It is a smaller sister site which deals with asians.

From my extensie baiting there are three main Ukrainian Scams in operation - any links are to posts which I started on that site so people can see how extensive my experience with FSU is.

They are

(A) The translation scam where you are soon asked to pay for the conversation as the "girl" can not afford the costs. Usually in this scam they will use stolen pictures of a model to trap you although more recently some agencies are getting local girls to assist. The email headers will have tell tale signs that you are dealing with a criminal gang as the IP may not resolve to the correct city and a mass mailing programme called the Bat! may be visible [The new Yahoo mail does not allow this x mailer to be viewed] as well as a HELO or EHLO which identifies the PC is also in headers from many other. They often will send fake certificates or photo shopped passports in an effort to convince you they are genuine and a telephone number so you can talk to the girl also.

See this link for a typical example which I posted there
http://www.romancescam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4421

(B) Ticket and Visa scam where again you write ad they quickly fall in love and then want you to send them money so they can travel to be with you. This is less popular there than from Russia [most IPs from Russian scammers resolve either to Yoshkar Ola (Scam Central or use a non Russian proxy and are identifiable that way} where the translation scam is not as popular but again the same tell tale signs can be found in a large percentage of such mails if you check the email header. Here they may also have access to the girl in the photos and can make "specific photos" to help reel the victim in.

This is the link to a typical one which happens to be Russian with some trophy pictures to show you the lengths they will go to when they want to convince a guy he is THE one.

(c) Pro daters
Explanation
http://www.romancescam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4229

these are impossible to tell from a genuine girl as they are real people who usually do not rely on x mailers and want you to travel there and will actually meet in person. They earn their money by meeting many guys one after the other and from local kickbacks from the Apartment they book for your visit to the taxi drivers they use who charge above the odds as well as the gifts and services their admirers send to them.

Note to all . . . we here at ScamVictimsUnited support and recommend the site
http://www.romancescam.com/

I have know of it for years, and they are listed in our resources section of this site . . . I just never posted on the board before since I am not a romance scam victim and I did not want to make it look like I was coming to that site to try and bring people to our site.

Great job getting on Oprah. I hope to add her to our list of interviews some day.
