Post subject:  False Love

I have registered on a couple of free dating sites the worst one was woome.com. for the most part it was confusing and seemed like there was more young people than more mature ones. I received an email from this site that (Dare Shegun a very good looking, slightly younger, man) was interested in meeting me. Well, I answered it and we emailed a couple of times and then he said he was going to start an instant messenger account so he could talk to me easier, so I did too. He told me that he was an antiques & gold collector and he was presently in Nigeria on business. He kept telling me hoe he missed me and felt that I was the one for him tis went on for two weeks and I asked him how soon before he would be coming back to the states. He said he was wrapping up his business and making arrangements. He even went as far as to say he had an interpreter with him (which also made him sound legitimate). I was suspicious at first when said he was in Nigeria, my thoughts were this is in Africa where I get a lot of my spam mail from, but I waved it off. On Sept. 23 he said he was having problems. He had money orders that their (his word "Primitive bank) would not cash because it was not drawn on their bank. He said he would be on a plane today if he could get them cashed. I felt uneasy about this. He said he was advised by the bank and the American Consolate to have someone he trusted in the states to let him send the money orders to and return to him by wire or western union. I think he got irritated at me because I made him feel like I did not trust what he was saying. I have not heard from him since then. My friend at work noticed last night how depressed I was (also knowing that I had 2 mini strokes over the last 2 months) started prying, so I told her what happened and how bad I felt for letting a possible friend or future relationship down. She found these websites for me that told of these kind of scams. Even though I am still hurting because I let my loneliness get duped by someone like this, I feel much better and I hope all you lonely hearts out there read this because it can happen on any of the dating sites.

Thank you for posting your story, and I am glad to hear that you did NOT wire him any money. If you had, you would have a broken heart and an empty bank account.

Time will heal your heart.

Thanks Shawn! I have been telling all my friends about this happening even though I feel embarrassed to have almost fallen for it. The more the word gets out the less likely it is to happen to them!

It is so odd that I saw Dare's name on this site. I was shocked! He is currently telling me the same story! This is unbelievable. He has not gotten to the money part yet. I am so disappointed that he is trying to prey on my emotions. He told me that he will be coming back to the states Christmas week. Thanks for sharing. You definately saved me from emotional tormoil.
