Post subject:  Collins Wallace trying to scam my sister

We've read in other website about this guy, he said the same about his life, that he was a widower with a kid, and he promised to come to Peru to meet my sister and ask her for marriage.
He 'went' to Nigeria to make some work as designer and he was robbed, he hasn't asked money, but he calls directly to my sis' cell phone number, we can't trace the number and it is not listed in the white pages.
Today I suggested my sister to tell him that i have a friend in Nigeria and maybe he could help him, so if he would send the hospital phone number i could try to talk to my friend, he sent a phone number, i havent dialed it now, I have a skype account but my sister is again thinking that maybe it's not a scam.
My sis has given him her address and phone numbers, my question is, Could he do something with this info? What can we do to catch him?
Thanks,
Les

If you suspect that he is scammer out of Nigeria (anywhere for that matter)... break all communication immediately. This is big business for these people and one does not know if they are dangerous... I spoke to the Fed Trade Commission, here in the US; local police etc... The 419 club is no joke; do not play with it for any reason... take the information you do have on this character and submit to the authorities that oversee scams in your district, especially if you feel that you are in compromise...

There are many sites dedicated to this topic that also display pics of popular scammers etc... you may be able to identify from that as well.
Best wishes.

The main thing he could do with your sister's name and address is try to use it in some way in a future scam.

There is no way to catch them since they are overseas and using false names.

Thanks for your replies, though my sister is really hurt, she saw what I found on the internet, she wants to make him spend all the money he can.
He still calls her to her cell phone, he hasn't asked for money but at the same time, he says that he's in the middle of nowhere and he can't get any help but he doesn't want to bother my sister with his problems.... as I told you, we are here in Lima, Peru, there is no office where we could report this type of case, thanks to the internet I found information about this type of scams.
For your records this guy says his name is Collins Wallace, he lives in Dallas, Texas, he works as a desgner and he has a kid named Jim or James that is 7 years old. His e-mail is colins_wallace4u@yahoo.com
Another question I have, do these kind of guys use to spend money on international calls? I know calls from usa to a cell phone here in South America are very expensive.
Anyway my sister has told him a lot of times that she's sorry for all he's going through in Nigeria, last time he said he is in Laos, that she wishes he could help him but she doesn't have money to help him, so maybe that is the reason why he hasn't asked for money yet...
Thanks a lot,
Leslie

There was a segment on Dateline about this . . . google "To Catch a Con Man" . . . I think that was the name of the segment . . . they will use stolen credit cards to buy thing they need, like pre-paid cell phones.

another thing they could be using is a VoIP service like Skype and use stolen cards to pay for it.

Skype bans people from Nigeria.

It's a great thing to use.

I asked my scammer to use it and he said he didn't have a mic on his computer- but I'm sure he knew also if i heard his voice I would realize he was a scammer.

The story my guy gave was similar to this one - William from Columbus, OH. He gave IM / yahoo email of: william.4love2u@yahoo.com

charming, atrocious English, persistent. But he got nothing from me.

Really? I have often thought that would be a great way to cut out a LOT of these scams, but from the legal side couldn't they get slapped with a lawsuit if some could prove the only reason they were banned was be cause they lived in Nigeria?
