I found this website in the process of doing reserach about scams related to eHarmony. I am soooo glad I found it. I have already had contact with the civil engineer in Manchester. His story fell apart very quickly when he said he was Native American, but couldn't tell me what tribe he was from. I cut off all communication and alerted eHarmony.

Now, I thought I met my soulmate. He claimed that his name is Edward "Eddy" and he is in the army currently serving in Iraq. Tikrit, to be exact. We exchanged emails and chatted online. He would send me these emails that would just blow me away. No man has ever felt this way about me. I was quite flattered. He said he was in love with me and I was the reason that he was able to go on, etc. For some reason I got this uneasy feeling when he wanted me to meet someone at the airport and get a package. The package would contain items for me and some moeny he "found". I don't plan on meeting anyone anytime soon at any airport. This just seems too strange to me. He could just send me the package with the items. Also, I have never asked him for money. So I found that to be strange as well.

So I looked back at his old emails and traced the IP address. It turned out to be Ghana. Also, whenever I asked him about being in the army, he would be vague. When I asked where he was stationed in California, he would get vague. So right now, I am trying to get him to reveal his true colors. I told him I was having second thoughts, etc. and of course he has "smoothed" things over and claims he will be home on May 28th and his first priority is to meet me in person. So we shall see. I am sure this is just a new scam. I highly doubt that the U.S. military uses Ghana to route its internet service through. When I saw all of the other posts about Ghana, I knew I had been tricked. Lucky for me, I haven't sent any money to anyone and I don't plan on taking any packages. But I just have to see what happens. My guess is "Eddy" will be killed in action and we will never meet. Or he will be hurt and need me to send him money even though his medical care will be provided by the military.

If anyone has had a similar experience or story, I would love to hear it. If anyone has advice, I would like that too.

Thanks.

My first bit of advice is to go with your gut and do not meet anyone at an airport as it could be extremely dangerous to your well being. My second bit of advice would be to cut ties now before this scammer hooks you in emotionally and you are left feeling hurt. I wish you the best of luck in your search for love and am truly happy you found this site before you lost money.

This morning when I got up, I realized there is no reason for me to continue to have contact with this "Eddy" person. I blocked his address. He might try to contact me, but I won't ever know about it! I am glad that I didn't lose any money and that I didn't go to the airport to pick up a package. I am mad at myself for almost falling hook, line, and sinker for this guy. Well I am back to the drawing board and haven't given up hope of finding someone on eHarmony. This time around I plan on listening to my 6th sense and asking the more questions.

I am really glad I found this website. It really saved me alot of heartache and possibly legal troubles.

mdm202,
I am SO GLAD to hear that you blocked his email address! That is the BEST thing that you can do. When you were talking about playing things out to see where they would go, which is called scam baiting, I was worried . . . if you don't know what you are doing, this could be very dangerous. (There are sites devoted to just that, like http://419eater.com/ )

I really don't know what I was thinking when I thought I could "catch" the person. I was just mad and wanted to strike back. Like I said, I am really glad that I didn't get more involved. I am just hoping my story sounds similar to what someone else is going through and they will think twice about being asked to pick up a package at the airport.

This morning when I was on eHarmony, I closed any matches that sounded too good to be true and didn't have any pictures posted. I realize that if the profile is vague and the person is a "technology consultant" or "civil engineer" then just move on. I know I am generalizing, but if you think about it, when someone is trying to find the love of their life, they are going to be very detailed on what they want.

I want to thank the people who started this website. Thanks! :D
