I have read about the cashiers check fraud. I was wondering if that scam could be possible using a certified check.

Yes, it can. Any check can be counterfeited. Do you believe that you were given a counterfeit check?

Yes I believe I have I looked the address of the bank that was on the check, and it doen's match what was on it. I went to the yellow pages and did a search of the bank, and the address there weas different, by a couple of blocks of the address on the check.

I am so glad that you looked up the address yourself! There are some people who will think this is a scam and then contact the bank off of the phone number/contact info listed on the check. If that was altered also, they will be talking to a scammer who will tell them "the check is fine".

Always look up the information on your own. Just like when you get the emails with links in them saying your bank account needs to be updated . . . don't click on the link . . . if it really is your bank, you probably know how to get to the REAL site all on your own and log in that way so that you are SURE who you are dealing with.

If you have any information on the scammer that you could post here . . . name, email address, company they said they were with . . . it could help someone else. This is all information that others may run a google search on.
