Post subject:  My sister is in blind love

My sister has been communicating with a man over the internet and by phone for a year now. I told her to be very careful, and that I don't trust this man. she is very valnerable as she is divorced and very lonesome. This man is 41 years old with 2 children and is he from Nigeria and said that he has never been married. He tells her what she wants to hear and has her where he wants her. They are now supposedly engaged and she is going to Nigeria this summer to meet him. My siblings and myself have told her that he is after a greencard. He said they can live in both Nigeria and America. He was supposed to come to America to meet the family but said that his paperwork was not approved to come to America. He said he is a construction worker in Lagos Nigeria. When we try to tell her that he is not legit she feels that we are just being negative about the whole situation. Her son who is only 18 is going to go with her to Nigeria. I feel this is a very dangerous situation and fear for her life as well as that of my nephew's. I don't know what else to do. My sister's ex-husband is from Cameroon, and he left her and their son shortly after getting his green card.

Have you suggested that your sister check out a site like ours, or other for victims. I do think that you have reason to be worried. I have heard of people traveling to Nigeria and disappearing or being beaten, or worse.

Over this time that they have known each other, has he asked her to send him money? Or is she supposed to be bringing a large amount of money with her when she goes there?

Let your sister know that you are not saying for sure that this guy is one of the bad ones, but you have just heard so much about scams and violence coming from Nigeria that it worries you and that you wish that she would really think about all of this. Is her life and the life of her son's worth a man she has only known for a year?

She may be upset with you at first, but I hope that she will see that you are doing it out of love for her.

Here is a current Travel Warning issued by the US Department of State for Americans traveling to Nigeria.

http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_ ... w_928.html

Tell your sister that this warning is unbiased and only based on fact. It is intended solely to protect any American who may be traveling overseas.

Unfortunately, in my industry as a fraud investigator, I am convinced that 99% of any activity, event, or person in Nigeria for any reason is a scam that could possibly cause loss of money, property, or even loss of life.
