About a month ago, I was im'd by a girl from Nigeria through yahoo im. She told me a bit about herself, and then sent me some very beautiful pictures of herself. Within a few days, she was proclaiming her undying love for me.
I responded with incredulity. "How can you love me here? We've only talked for an hour or so. But she continued to im me and send e-mails full of poetry and professions of love.
Now, I am speaking here, knowing that something is not right, but still found myself succumbing to her.
At this point, she is supposed to be coming here to Atlanta, GA on a plane tomorrow. To be my future wife. She is 26, her pics are beautiful, and she is a member of a huge church in Nigeria.
Also, she is a virgin, she dreams of me every night in her lonely bed, and she has gone before her church to announce her trip here to the US. This was about a week ago. Now she has gotten me to promise to send her pastor money to defray the costs of obtaining her visa, and travel expenses.
She knows I have very limited funds, but she has her savings, and the contributions of members from her church. I am to help out with whatever I can, and send it through Western Union in her Pastors name, Dominic Aluko.
I have not sent anything yet, even though I am so wanting this to be real. But I hoped to get some feedback from anyone out there who has heard of anything similar to this.

Thanks,

Greg

SCAM - how could you think otherwise???

You are not communicatimg with a 26 year old virgin female - probably a hairy-*rsed 6 foot 6 inch African male, possibly called Dominic Aluko.

If you send any money, you will never see it again.

You have been warned.

Please listen to maninthestreet. There are many such scams going on and it is all wanting money to come and be with you on these love you scams. There will be some reason that her trip is postponed until you send money and then she will need more money and more until you can't send anymore. Then this beautiful lady with extra equipment will disappear with your money never to be seen again by you. It is so easy to fall into their traps, I know this from experience on another type of scam. But it is in fact a scam. The pictures come from the internet of innocent people who probably have no idea it is being used. You can find many examples of this scam at 419eater.com where they scambait these scumbags.

Please be very careful.

Thanks to both of you for responding here (maninthestreet and pasttired). I never did send her (or him) any money, but I came very close. Writing about it here and on the 419 site crystallized in my mind just how many things did not add up.

I'm trying to make up my mind now as to wether I want to get some payback, for the way these people screwed with my head (and heart).

Right now, I am stringing this person along with excuses as to my paycheck not deposited into my account on time. Actually this is true because of Columbus day holiday, but I just want to see the reaction I get now that I've given the same excuse again for another day.

Thanks again for your help,

Greg

It's pleasing to know that you realized this was a scam, and have not lost any money to the scammer. However, if they have any details that can be traced back to you personally, please consider dropping it and ceasing all communications with them rather than 'stringing them along'. They have links globally, and it isn't worth the risk to have your details known.

They do have my Name, Address and Phone Number. Do you know of anythings I should be wary of. Is there a way they could use this info against me? I suppose they could use my name to mislead others.
Is there anything any of you could tell me?

Thanks,

Greg

Hi my story is similar to your own. I live in Northern Ireland and have a profile on a dating site. Like you I was im'm by a girl from Nigeria only this week. I am a suspicious guy by nature so thats how I thought scam right away and searched until I found this site. Its almost the same thing exactly, pictures of a beautiful sexy girl in her 20's and in only a few days starting to fall in love with me. Got really suspicious when I found her name, "Odion" in every search I did, come up as a mans name. Still chatting to this "girl" just out of curiostity, but the first time money is mentioned, I'm outta here. Glad I found this site, and I wish the best to anyone who has had the missfortune to have been scamed by these people. Her yahoo user name is rosevikapetal

As long as you didnt provide them SS# DL # Passport copy or anything sensitive in nature you should be ok. If you did you need to go to fraudaid.com and follow the section called ID Theft What To Do Now!

Just as a follow up for those of you who were following my story. I recieved this email from another person who was being scammed in the same way. The first part of it is my reply back to him. The last part is his last conversation with this scammer. Man oh man, this person sounds just like the person I was being scammed by. For sure, the conversation could have come from some of my heartbreaking im sessions.

Thanks all

Dearest Scam Victim,
I feel for you and your story. I know it's old but I have to say that I hope you left things alone. Trying to get back at the Nigerian who tried to rip you off is a lost cause. They are already ripped off. I've been to Nigeria and they are living in a very tense and corrupt society. Don't get me wrong. There are some amazing things about Nigeria. For example, one of the best authors in the world, Chinua Achebe, is Nigerian. Also Phillip Emeagwali, the father of the internet, is alson Nigerian. If it wasn't for his discovery of the internet algorithm the web wouldn't work at the speed it does today. Of course there are also desperate places in Nigeria due to the Biafran war and contiinuous political corruption which is probably fed by the fires of international private interest. I know it sucks to get burned, but some Nigerian people are already burned, probably the ones doing the scams. I hope you left it alone.
