Post subject:  Avoid scams by cashing USPS Money Order at the Post Office

I received a payment for an item that I'm selling on Craigslist in the form of a USPS Money Order ($60). I took it to the post office and I explained to the employee that I didn't know if it was genuine because I didn't know the buyer. The USPS staff told me that the MO was valid and gave me the cash. Still being skeptical I asked the employee if there is any risk that the buyer paid with a credit card or in any way could create a "non-sufficient funds" situation but the response was that USPS MO can be bought only with cash so there was no risk of NSF.

If all this is true and there is indeed no risk of cashing USPS MO at the Post Office, wouldn't it be the best way to protect yourself from scams? Simply request the payment to be sent to you in the form of a USPS MO that you cash at the Post Office. If the MO is forged they will know it on the spot (as opposed to banks taking 2 weeks time). If it's valid you get the cash.

Please, let me know what you think.
