Post subject:  Carlos Montes: scam?

Hi!

I am selling a property in the internet and I was contacted by Mr. Carlos Montes, who was interested in buying the property.
I became suspicious when Mr. Carlos Montes readily answered affirmatively when I asked for the price of 40 000 euros. I thought: who buys a property without seeing it...?
Even more suspicious, Mr. Carlos Montes told me the price was to be paid by a deposit of 10 000 euros, and the rest of the amount will be paid by his agent...

So I searched in the Internet and luckily found this forum.

I am now aware of the situation, but I still answered to the last e-mail Mr. Carlos Montes sent.

I will reproduce our correspondence, so you can read it and give me your opinion. We should get together and put these people into jail!

Best regards, Elsy

Mr. Carlos Montes,

I agree to your conditions, just let me know how do you intend to make the deposit of the money, and how can we sign the necessary legal documents.

Best regards,

Elsa Reis

Probably a scam - no legitimate buyer offers to pay for a unseen property in cash. At the best, this is a money laundering attempt (what is the source of the money?). If you continue with the sale, don't be surprised if the 'buyer' asks you to become involved in some sort of money exchange transaction as part of the sale e.g exchange his Euros for your dollars, or vice versa, with an apparent very favourable exchange rate for you, but he ends up giving you counterfeit notes and he gets your real money.

Hi, I'm living in New Caledonia and as you, I received a proposal of M. Carlos Montès to buy my property. I asked him to forward the deposit to my notary and asked for a copy of his passport. It took 2 days but he finally sent it. As you, I think that it is a trap but it's always interesting to see where to they are able to go. My notary is supposed to receive the account ... I will tell you more about it soon. In the meantime, I 'm going to try to join the passport. If anyone knows interpol, it can be interesting to check if the guy didn't steal a identity...
