Post subject:  Scammers on Ebay

So I listed my unworn wedding dress on ebay on whim that maybe it would sell. Almost immediately I was contacted by a person who said her "client" was interested in purchasing my dress immediately. I have almost been scammed int he past by someone wanting to use a fake escrow company to purchase from me so I was immediately weary. I posted a the meessage on an ebay community board and got instant replies telling me yes it was a scam. One person sent me to a website http://www.bustedupcowgirl.com , apparently the owner of this site has been dealing with these nigerian scammers for quite some time. She has kept a tally of how much money that have spent sending her these fake money orders, and its over 3 grand. I have continued my correspondence with the scammer because I'm angry for being targeted. I want to get that money order in my hand so they think they've got me. Is that horrible? I have no intention of cashng it and I plan to turn it over to the appropriate authorities. But should I be concerned for giving this scammer my address? I'm still in the beginning stages of correspondence and i could change the address the money goes to, should I keep going and try and get one step closer to the gov seeing this is a problem? or should I let it go? I'm sure there are many people who have been scammed and lost thousands of dollars because of this and obviously nobody is doing anything about it? And should I be reporting this to the FTC? Any information will be appreciated.

I would not say that is horrible, but if you want to go into the world of scam-baiting, I would say that you have to be very careful. It is not something that I want to get into myself, so I cannot offer much advice on HOW to do it, but there are other sites that do offer that sort of advice.

Again, since scam-baiting is not something I do, I can only say that I would be very careful about who you give what information to.

You could also do a search on this forum for the topic of scam-baiting to find others who do have this "hobby" and other sites that talk about this topic.

Hello, baiter here :)
I'm also very glad that you didn't fall for this scam! If you want to get into baiting, I urge you to join a site where you can learn how to do it safely (a google search of the word "scambaiting" will lead to these sites).

I would suggest that you drop this scammer, as it seems he has at least some real information about you. Please do NOT give him your address! Scammers are criminals, and they do sometimes "work" with friends and relatives in many different countries. While they probably wouldn't bother coming after you, its not really worth even that small a risk. If you want to go after this particular scammer, save his address and pick him back up after researching how to go about it without giving yourself away.

Good luck.

Post subject:  she wont let go

I tried yesterday to cut her loose but she won't let go. I told her that i hadnt ended the ebay auction and i had a bidder locally that wanted the dress. If the money does arrive what should I do, tell her I am retracting any arrangements with her and that the dress is sold. If the money comes I think I'll just take it to the cops, but I live in a small town outside of ATlanta and these backwoodsers here will probably think I'm crazy. How do I get rid of this person? HELP!

@hecticeyes- Don't panic. If "she" sends a cheque, email her back and say that your bank declared the cheque to be fake, and you have already sold the dress to a local buyer for cash. Give the cheque to the police or tear it up, and then block the scammer's email addy from your box and completely ignore "her". Scammers will be as unshakable as dog poop on your boot for awhile, but they will give up and leave you alone once they figure out that your are NOT going to send money.

A responce of "The bank said that the check is counterfeit and I have turned it and all of your information over to the Secret Service and FBI" has seemed to work 9 times out of 10 for getting rid of the scammer.

:o
It is not horrible to want to receive the check. I have posted my story on this web site and have contacted every single authority out there, even the Interpol in France. I walk around and I carry in my purch a "fake" check $5500. I continue to email the scammer every day and have been believe that I am sending him the rest of the funds. (I have also notified my local police since I was "clever" and gave out all my phone numbers, my home address, pics of my home, etc.) I am scared but also would like some justice for all those Americans (and the scam is happening in other countries) that have lost their money. I thank god every day for not cashing that check !!! Good luck

Carrying around a counterfeit check is dumb/////////////// if somebody gets it and cashes it somehow...maybe a fake ID, you will be held responsible... Playing with counterfeits is not smart,,,,at all
