They will take that money when the check comes back as counterfeit and that will be the end of it from their end . . . they would have the money that they are after so they don't care about it after that.
If there was no money in that account and then they would have a problem with you since in their eyes you would owe them the money . . . this is why I made the second post that I did in the other thread clarifying that you should leave enough to cover outstanding checks/bills you have that would come from that account and the $5000 to cover the counterfeit check.
Like I said before, as long as they have the money, the ball is really in your court as to what the next step is . . . to let this go and call it a learning experience, or to try and fight the bank to get back some of the money.
