Today our bank statement had told us that the money orders were counterfeit, after my Fiance had cashed them last week and paid the rent and some other bills.

My Fiance had made arrangements with 2 females for services upon arriving to the US for a work contract. Over $2500 was sent in 3- 4 money orders. Why woudl our bank wait for a week till they knew the money orders were counterfeit? What do we do now?

I was reading on this board about all types of scams and this is not right, but I guess we all have to learn our lessons, but why at such expense.
Then the females wanted Him to wire over 1/2 the money back for a plane ticket and they would pay him when they got here.

To me that didn't make sense, no money was ever wired back. What steps do we take so to protect ourselves and not lose everything in the process?
Please help us

Well here are the cold hard facts

1. The bank fronted you the money and you spent it, you owe the bank and need to make payment to them or payment arrangements to pay the balance owed off. There is no way around this.

2. You are in a position that is not too cool, let me explain. Though they were fake money orders you did cash them as payment from the scammers sent to you, you did spend the money and did not wire the money back to them as instructed. Though I do not agree that these thieves should get one red cent, you put yourself in a bad position spending the money on other than what it was intended for. Right or wrong in the eyes of the law you did something illegal.

Your best bet is to pay the bank and get this behind you as fast as you can and in the future do not trust strangers to pay by any form of money order, check, cashiers check or bank wire. Good ole cashola is how you should deal with people.

It is easy to get taken in by someone's sob story and demand for help cashing checks, but you must say NO NO NO from here on out.
