Guys please beware of a company called distance learning usa! This company is affilated with excelsior college, they give you all of your study modules for your test. I paid in $3000.00 for my course work and nursing books via bank draft to the company and took two nursing concept test. One month later, I recieved a letter from excelsior stating that I was denied entrance into the program. I called Alex my advisor at distance learning and he stated that he would have the situation resolved in 3 days. Well, its been 5 months now and no word from Alex and no response from him to my many many messages and emails. I work to hard for my money to have someone take it like that. The company gaurantees a refund which is obvious a lie. I don't know what to do to get my money back, they want answer their phones or return my calls or respond to my emails.

Do any of you have any suggestion on the next step I need to take to get my money back from this company.

Have you looked into filing a small claims action against this company? I have heard of them and know they are stateside so it may be easier to recover your losses. I am sorry you have had to deal with this when your only goal was to get an education and better your life.

Have you tested three times?

FOrm the website:

"Distance Learning USA guarantees that in the event that a student fails to pass an exam after three (3) attempts, DLUSA will refund all monies collected from student toward that particular Study Module."

Distance learning or online education are easy victims of scams. Sometimes, the degree's are fake and sometimes

Many people are interested in distance education -- attending college around their busy schedule by way of the Internet. Many reputable schools offer real distance learning degrees, but others are quite simply scams.
There a lot of examples of scams. Some of these scams are obvious -- "Send us your check and get a piece of paper." But others are so complex even the students are fooled.

Fake degrees, non accredited colleges or education, and etc.

I found some tips to avoid and know about any scam.

Question a school as a potential distance learning scam when:

Tuition is charged on a per-degree basis, rather than per credit, course, or semester.

There are few or unspecified degree requirements, or none at all.

The emphasis is on degrees for work or life experience.

The school is relatively new, or has recently changed its name.

The school is not accredited or is accredited, but not by an agency recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.

Admission criteria consist entirely of possession of valid Visa or MasterCard. Previous academic record, grade point average, and test scores are irrelevant.

You are promised a diploma within 30 days of application regardless of your status upon entry.

The school's website either lists no faculty or lists faculty, many of whom received their "degrees" from the school itself or from schools accredited by agencies not recognized as legitimate.

One must be careful about his institute. The easy and cheap education can cost a lot more than you imagine. I work in the field of distance learning and would recommend students to actually look for the authenticity of the institutes as it is one of the most common issues I get to know about in distance learning.

I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. I wish you luck in getting justice.

I do want to point out, though, that the Distance Learning USA is not affiliated with Excelsior College in any way. They just sell study materials that can be used towards a degree at Excelsior (in much the same way that Cliffs Notes sells study materials that can be used at Harvard, but they're not affiliated with Harvard). DLUSA states in their FAQ's that they are not affiliated with Excelsior:
http://www.distancelearningusa.com/faq.html

"Does Distance Learning USA, Inc. Have Any Relationship With Excelsior College?
No! DLUSA is an independent analysis and research company that publishes study guides and research material to assist individuals who want to obtain an associate As(n) or BSN degree without attending a traditional college. Excelsior College has no collaborative partnerships with private educational agencies or publishing companies including Distance Learning USA."

Excelsior College has the following warning posted throughout the web site:
https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_Col ... n_Services

"To help you become a well-informed consumer we suggest that you consider the following before making any purchase decision regarding study materials provided by organizations other than Excelsior College.

Does the company:

- Clearly articulate that it is an independent enterprise, separate from Excelsior College, that it is not a degree granting institution, and that it does not offer courses that lead to the award of college-level credit
- Openly indicate that it is not an agent of Excelsior College, that it is not authorized to provide academic advising regarding Excelsior’s degree requirements, and that all its costs and fees are separate from those you will pay to the College
- Have a record of unresolved complaints/disputes with consumer protection agencies, nursing boards, attorneys general offices, or other similar organizations
- Require clients to commit to long-term, binding contracts to access its products and services
- Provide data to substantiate the satisfaction of its clients with its products and services"

Best wishes,
Tracy
