Post subject:  New Scan Letter being sent - BEWARE!!!!

I received the following letter this morning with the subject line simply stating - "assistance". If this were true (which I highly doubt) there would be both military and civil consequences for anyone who gets caught by this, why would this be announced in the UK and nothing in the US press? BEWARE!

Dear Friend,

My name is Sgt.Andrea Williams, an American soldier, I was serving in the military of the 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq. I am in United Kingdom at the moment, I and my partner moved one of the boxes containing funds which we believe is belonging to Saddam Hussein in March 2003, the total fund in this box is $12,000,000.00 (Twelve million US dollars), this fund had been moved via a safe Diplomatic Courier Service to a secured security company, Click on this link to read about the event that took place which made us to wait till this year before we can move and invest this fund for safety reasons; http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/2988455.stm

Basically since we are working for the American government we cannot keep these funds, but we want to transfer and move the funds to you, so that you can keep it for us in your safe account or an offshore account. We will divide the total funds in three ways, since we are 3 that is involved. This means that you will take 30 percent, I will take 30 percent, and my partner will take 30 percent. 10 percent will be kept aside for expenses.
This business is confidential, and we plead that it should not be discussed with anyone. We are contacting you for partnership because we cannot handle such an amount of money due to our ethics in the Military.

There is no risk whatsoever involved as we left this fund in the Security company without declaring it's contents for this period of time to make sure that the fund will be safe for transfer and investment. If you are interested I will send you the full details, my job is to find a good partner that we can trust and will assist us. Please tell us how we can trust you? When you receive this letter, kindly send me an e-mail signifying your interest including your telephone/fax numbers for quick communication and also your contact details. I assure you that this transaction is risk free and its success is 100% guaranteed, I am doing this so that i can go into business and resign from the military. Please help us to help you.

Please reply me via this email for security reasons:( andreawilliams1998@yahoo.com.au)

Yours-in-service,
Sgt.Andrea Williams

Check the email headers to determine where the email was sent from.

It was sent from - sgt.andreawilliams@atlas.sk which is a foreign websearch site. Also if you click on the link provided it goes into a 'fake' BBC website. :x

The scumbags are posing as members of the military? Doesn't surprise me...

Can you post the full headers?

Here is the header:

From : Andrea Williams <sgt.andreawilliams@atlas.sk>
Sent : Tuesday, January 23, 2007 1:52 AM
Subject : assistance

I checked on the sending site, I didn't understand the language, it's not Russian, French, Italian or anything else I recognized.
As for the link it referenced, the date line on the 'article' as "Last Updated: Wednesday, 30 April, 2003, 12:28 GMT 13:28 UK"

I also checked snopes.com to see if they have anything listed, they don't. I've spoken to a friend of mine (a retired military person) who was shocked at the crazy, idiotic people in this world that would even try this kind of crap.

I just got an email from GM of atlas.cz (monther company of atlas.sk) that they'll look into the matter further and close the email account eventually, if they found 'appropriate'...

It is interesting that an American Army soldier would be using an email address that is Australia based.

That is often a tip off that the person is a scammer. Most people won't register an email address that is not their country of origin. That is unless they are up to something...

Security reasons? Not a chance. The email address used to send the emails has probably been reported and closed due to spamming.
