I am working with two companies on importing electronic items into the U.S. I got their company info, including their company number.

I proceeded to pull up both companies on http://www.creditgate.com and retrieve a credit report on both companies. Both looked fine.

My question is... If they are a "legal" company, and registered in the U.K. as a corporation, does that mean they are honest and will deliver the products? One company I am dealing with has been Inc. since 2001.

Thanks for your opinions,

Brian

Impossible to tell, I'm afraid, as you haven't given us the name of the companies you are dealing with. Please let us have the company names, the people at these companies you are dealing with, along with email adresses and/or telephone numbers.

Registration with Companies House (http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/) as a limited company does not in itself guarantee honesty and integrity. It is up to you to make the necessary checks and, as you have stated, a good start is by obtaining credit references. You could also make enquiries of the Trading Standards Office (http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/) and perhaps also check the BBC Watchdog site (http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/) for any adverse information. Also search on the web search engines for any possible complaints that the companies have been involved with.

This turned out to be a scam. The company is Storebase Limited in London. After pulling information on their IP Address, they are located in Nigeria.

After placing an order for 5 phones and paying by Western Union, I was told that the CEO required me to order an additional 5 phones in order to meet their minimum order quantity. When I asked for a refund, they refused. So now I am out $900, luckely not $1800.

Company Info:

STOREBASE LIMITED
Registered No. 04284197
Address: 18 CONWAY STREET, LONDON, W1T 6BE
Type: Incorporated
Incorporation Date: 10-09-2001
Independent: Yes
Vat/Tax Number: GB 740626544
