Hey all, So, i recently fell for the cash-check-keep-some-Western Union-the-rest scam. I received the check and went to go cash it at my bank. They detected it was a fraud and have since closed my account for suspected fraud. I have already made a complaint to IC3 and a comment to the Secret Service. I plan on going to my local police precinct to file a complaint with them in the morning. I was wondering if I can be in any legal trouble for unsuccessfully trying to cash the check? Also, is their any other advice people have for what I should do? |

How long ago did this happen? If they have not arrested you or pressed charges yet you should be fine. You might want to check out the info at http://scamvictimsunited.com/Reporting_scams.htm |

It happened on Tuesday. I even went back to the bank to speak with them about things and no police/security were called. They even said that even though they are going to close my account, they will not file a report with Chexsystems. Does this seem right? i thought this was a bit dubious. |

Sounds like you have one of the good banks that are willing to work with you . . . no cops, not sending your info to Chexsystems and just closing your account. Other Things To Do: Close any other accounts that you have at that bank so they cannot freeze those accounts Turn off any direct deposits you have going into that account Turn off any automatic payments or withdrawals you have coming out of that account Open an account at another bank |
