I got the same thing from Amy Johnson, sent over my info. Only address and stuff like that. Of course the worries me but I did not give them too much. The fact is, I did catch the scam but they still went a step further. I have the fed envelope with the fake check in it. I have not opened it, but I wonder what can I do? I even contacted the person saying I know it is fake but they are still trying to get me to do it.

Destroy the check, cut off contact with the scammer, and post their email address on this site.

...fell for this scam as well...damn it…thought I was good at spotting this kind of thing, obviously not - they got me! The 1st clue should have been that the business was in Bellevue, WA and I live in LA! The ad was posted on Los Angeles CL Monday, 9.7.09 for a Personal Assistant to Amy Johnson Photography -have been corresponding via Email and IM; I am concerned and worried as the perpetrator(s) have my home address, phone numbers (home & cell). I was asked to provide an estimate for office equipment to show how interested I was in the position, was promised a check by weeks end when I asked when I should be receiving, I was told ‘Monday’ and that I would be provided with a tracking number. The ad is no longer up on the LA/CL site so unable to report…does anyone know why CL isn’t/hasn’t done something about this scam, seems pretty wide spread??!! I am grateful it don’t go any further, thanks to this site!

...these scammer(s) are good...I don't believe there is a 'real' Amy Johnson Photography - the two sites are bogus (notice, one doesn't have any contact info at all)...I am a Web designer and wondered why a photographer's site would look so amateur...even thought I could use my skills to build a better looking site...now it's all clear! They get your trust, reel you in then go in for the kill!

b.t.w. I should have had another clue as the phone & fax area codes are different - the phone area code 209 is Modesto, CA and fax area code 818 is San Fernado Valley not Bellevue, WA as claimed in Emails. now, i'm on a mission - I feel like a detective!

This Craigslist scammer is using another alias. This is one of his more-recent names used. He's using the same format/template to gather information from folks. If anyone figures out how he is using this information please post it here with as much detail as possible so that other victims can find it on a google search and take pro-active steps to helping the community rid of this fraud.

Amy Johnson has now changed information: here is the address she sent me:

Amy Johnson.
Amy Johnson.
1169 Coast Hill Rd
Santa Barbara, CA 93101
206-984-1643
Email:ammmyjohnon82@yahoo..com

of course the area code is not from Santa Barbara, that is what tipped me off, so I googled the info and landed in here.

Is there anything else we can do to stop these scammers? Can the police or FBI do anything about them?

Just a FYI. I have always put all my info at the top of my resume until I, too, fell for a couple of these scammers. I no longer put anything but an email address.

Be cautious!

Mac

I think this is one of the most recent emails that this person is sending to people relying to job postings. I just replied to "Personal Assistant" job posting on craigslist on OCT. 6 and got this in my inbox the next day. All I submitted was the info on this "APPLICATION". Are there any suggestions as to what I should do now? This person is actually sending this check in the mail, and should arrive here by Tuesday. This is the first time I have ever fallen into a trap like this. I really do need some guidence and support as to what I should do nw to protect my family, myself and my finances (not there's too much availablt right now that I don't have full time employment). I guess the first step would be not to cash the check right?
