Post subject:  I think I was just scammed- help please

I answered a job posting a couple of weeks ago to perform a mystery shop. I sent them my address, as I have several other legitimate companies. I never responded to an email after the first one. In the second email, they said Western Union was having problems and they needed someone to shop the location, they would send me the money they wanted wired so I was not out anything.

Now I currently edit for a mystery shop company and make $1 per mystery shop edited. Our shoppers make a maximum of $30-$50 per shop. They never even told me how much was being sent and I honestly did not expect to receive anything from them, until I opened the door today and there was a UPS envelope at the door. There was no note, just two international USPS money orders for $650 each- that means they would be paying me $1050 for a fee- that is outrageous. That is also when I found this site.

I think it too good for several reasons- first, I work from home full time and own my own business. I would never use a comic font on an email and would kill any of my employees for doing so- it is unprofessional. They also never even signed some of the emails. Again, I would kill or fire an employee for doing this. When they did sign it, they were inconsistent with the name used- sometimes the first name only, and the last email had the last name only. I also think it is too good because the letter came today= on Good Friday when the post office is close until Tuesday. The emails are from one person, the envelope from another, and the money orders from another- all in different states. When I look up people, they only have twitter or facebook accounts. I can't find the name or addresses for the people anywhere. Finally, the money orders look weird. I just have a really bad feeling. That is how I found this webpage.

Of course, part of me says to check out the options, because if they are real, that would help us so much. I have been praying for about this much money to help us. Of course, I am not about to deposit and cash the money orders- and told them so. I can't lose even the $300 they want me to send.

How can you tell for sure? I have always been told if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Please help me and send me information about checking this out and sending this to the proper authorities if it is a scam.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Listen to that inter voice of yours. It is a scam. Have you checked the IP addy's of the emails you received? Also google the email addys. I am not really sure what you can do with the money orders, but under no circumstance should you cash them. Go to the topic scams in the news. I posted a link to Dateline's show on the topic. Here is where the topic is.

If they send you a check and ask you to deposit or cash it and the wire money it is a scam.

Thank you both for your comments. I have a friend that works at the post office that confirmed that they were fradulent. He said that if I go to my local post office and provide them with the money orders and envelope, etc. that the postal inspector can take them and investigate the matter to try and prosecute. Apparently it is a felony offense to send postal money orders, since the post office is part of the government.

I just think that it is really sad that people would prey on others trying to find legitimate work opportunities.

Hi
As you said you found the money order, but there is no base of these and more over the are asking you to deposit money, so good adviser always says never deposit money.
Rest upon your luck also this my be good for you.
Search in Google before taking any decision.

Regards

Hey. If you get a chance, check out my post. I recently started working from home, and some guy sent me a UPS check in the mail, I tried to cash it, and it was a fraud check. I was trying to take money out of people's accounts. Whatever money I made, I would take 225 out and send this guy the rest. I went to bank of america, and the police showed me up and arrested me. For forgery. I now have a felony on my record and was in jail for 3 days. Everyone told me the same thing you said "if it seems too good to be true, it is". I wish I could go back now, but i can't. I just should have listened to everyone. I told myself, Im just going to cash this check, because what if it really is real. I mean,I was actually working from home. And...look. Now I'm going to court, and dealing with a lawyer. I'm sorry you're dealing with this too.
