The CSET Customer Satisfaction Evaluation Tool looks real enough. Especially if you have done any bonafide mystery shopping. Which I have. But I have NEVER had any of my groups send me a check for $3995.00! That was an eye brow raiser! So I called the operator to see where the number was from and it was from Canada, even though letter states that company is based in Minnesota. Once I found out that I tried looking up the so called web site and this page is what I found! Thank the Lord I followed my hunches and followed through doing my research to find out this was a scam BEFORE I GOT SCAMMED!
MYSTERY SHOPPERS BEWARE!

There will always be more . . . when too many people know one name, address or phone number as being part of a scam, they will change things up . . . but if we keep posting them here we can try to inform others of these changes and variations in the scams.

Thank you for posting this info. Someone else may run a google search on this same info tomorrow, and it will bring them right to this site, and they will be saved from becoming a scam victim.

I got the exact same one but it was for a Western Union at KMart. I obviously knew it was a scam once I saw a check for $3395 and asked me to call and "validate" the check.

So how do they pull this scam off?

Glad to see so many reports of this scam!!! I received Mine today, 6/25/09. My scam was identical to "wiltrip's". Also the same as BananaVodka's from Neptune, NJ. and same phone #. I saw what looked like a real check, and suspected fowl-play. What was really odd, is the fact that only recently I actually did apply for a customer service position!! Very relieved I checked into it before calling the number!! Also mine stated there was an attached copy of the weekly time schedule request sheet faxed back to them so they may know my available hours for the upcoming week. No such attachment included. I'm with wiltrip...how do they pull that off?

pj4059 and wiltrip,
You asked how do they pull off the scam . . . well, the check is counterfeit. As a part of your mystery shopper assignment, you were supposed to cash the check and then wire money. Well, the bank will show the check as "cleared" or "verified" in about 24 hours, so then you will go and wire the money off. But, about a week later it will come up as counterfeit and the bank will contact you and want you to return the money, and until you do they will just deduct it from your bank account . . . there goes $3000+ out of your account!

For more information on the misleading banking terms, read my blog article here http://scamvictimsunited.wordpress.com/ ... k-they-do/

I just got the same letter with a cashiers check for the same amount. I went to my bank and spoke to the manager, she has seen this letter many times and their system is pretty advanced so the check came up as an item that poses high risk of being returned. The deal is that if you follow their instructions and deposit the check, your bank clears the fund because after all it is a cashier's check, you withdraw the 3k they want you to return to them via Western Union from your account and keep the $410 as your payment. BUT once the check is processed and it is returned for lack of funds; guess who is responsible for those funds??? YOU!!!! So bottom line; it's a combination of money laundering and fraud. What I don't understand is why would Capital One generate these cashiers checks knowing there are no funds??? and why would Western Union partcipate as courier for this fraudulent exchange of money??? Aren't we already screwed enough with all the unemployment, and economy in general?? All I did was answer an ad online for a job opportunity as a Customer Service Rep...it's dusgusting!

Capital One is not participating in the scam . . . someone altered the check.

The question about Western Union . . . that one I do not know . . . I have encouraged them to post warning signs, including sending them this pdf of a sign they could post. http://www.scamvictimsunited.com/downlo ... ertSVU.pdf
