I signed up for one of these, and they sent me US Postal Money Orders worth almost $2,000. I was instructed to cash them, and send the cash (less my 10%) to an address in Haiti.

I checked with the post office, and they are counterfeit.

Here are US Postal Service instructions on how to detect counterfeit.

I am so embarrassed that I half way fell for this too. I got as far as going to my bank and they said that the money orders were never signed and I needed to get them signed in order to cash them-a real business man would know this and not ever send out money without a signature. Now I find out that the bank will take the money out of my account when they see it was a fake check.....really go with your gut instinct on this one. The guy that emailed me was named EDWARD HARTMAN. He is such a rookie at this scam that he forgot to send me an address number to mail the moneygram to and thank goodness he did or I would have done it a day earlier before reading this website.

I had been in contact with a Rev. Fredrick Smith of Mistery Shoppers Network and all was going alright. Some issues with the check being sent, but it all SEEMED ok. It is not. The check that they send you is stolen. Originally, it was intended to go to some other person, but was put into your name. This is NOT good because check fraud is a criminal offense. If in Canada, you can report your findings to Phonebusters which is a division of the RCMP that deals with fraud. When I called them, they were WELL aware of this scam. Unfortunately, I had already deposited the check (not withdrawn, thank God) so I have to wait to give them some of the information needed. I'm glad that I found out before the check was processed that this was a fraud. I became suspicious when they INSISTED upon me withdrawing the money and sending it via Western Union immediately.
What follows is the email that I received.

From: World Mistery Shopper Network (skilljob4you@live.com)

Since letting them know that I was unable to cash the check until it was cleared, I have not heard from them.

Spread the word to any website that you can!

Hello eveyone. Don't feel bad. I too was deceived into thinking that this may actually be a legitimate ordeal. WRONG! My advice/suggestion: Simply do not continue communications with these type of individuals. None at all. They will eventually go away. Completely sever/discerp all ties, immediately. And please: keep in mind that if you have any doubts about something (like this) again, it is (always) a great idea to investigate it. "Do your due diligence". You owe it to yourself.

Also: please keep in mind that we're living in an "information era". The internet is full of resources. Use it to your benefit! Query any item.

However, and above all, use your given faculty. Use your "common sense". If it seems (to good) to be true--chances are, it is! Don't try convincing yourself otherwise. If caught somewhere inbetween -always- do the right thing! (Allow your conscience to lead you, it WILL guide you in the right direction)

Farewell!

Hi..

I fell for this and cashed the check that I received from these scammers.. I didn't give away the $3415.00 that it asked me to but I used the $410.00 that it said I could keep.. What will happen to me? Will I have charges pressed against me or will my bank simply ask for the money back and/or close my account?

Call your bank and let them know that you just found out it is a scam, and they will probably work with you and ask for the money back. For more info on these scams, you can go here

I am unemployed and will have trouble paying it back, but I don't want to face anything criminal since I was unaware of this scam.. If it was only $410.00 do I risk anything more serious than my account being closed or in the negative?

Call the police and file a report with them also, then it helps to prove that you did not know about this being a scam at the time that you deposited the check. You could bring a copy of that police report with you to the bank.

I don't want to tell you that there is no way that you will be arrested, because I have seen it happen, but taking the steps to report it and work with the bank should help to show them you are the victim and avoid criminal charges.

I was recently on Craigs List browsing jobs and came upon an ad for a Part-time Office Asst. I was interested in the position, so I emailed the email posting i.d. I got an email this morning from a guy saying he was part of this group that was hired out to carry out jobs...Well i've been screwed over before by scams, luckily i've been able to fix the problems without the help of the police or filing any reports or anything, so I figured i'd check this guy out first before emailing him any further. It's a good thing I did because I was led right to this website and saw other people that have been or almost were scammed by these jerks! Here's the email I got, so be on the lookout!!!!

Hello,
We get hired to go to other peoples companies and act like customers in order to know how the staffs are handling their services in relation to their customers. Once we have a contract to do so, you would be directed to the company or outlet, and you would be given the funds you need to do the job(either purchase products or required services), after which you would write a comment on the staffs activities and give a detailed record of your experience.
Most companies employ our assistance when people give complains about their services, or when they feel there are needs for them to improve their customer service. your Identity would be kept confidential as the job states (secret customer) you would be paid $200 for every duty you carry out, and bonus on your transportation allowance, and funds would be given to you if you have to dine as part of the duty Your job will be to evaluate and comment on customer service in a wide variety of shops, stores, restaurant and services in your area.
No commitment is made on this job, and you would have flexible hours as it suits you. If you are interested, do send in these information:
FULL NAME:
CONTACT ADDRESS:
CITY:
STATE:
ZIP-CODE:
TELEPHONE NUMBER:
MOBILE NUMBER:
AGE:
OCCUPATION:
EMAIL:
So we can look at your distance from the locations which you have to put your service into, and your address would also be need for your payments.
Thanks
Yours Sincerely
Johnson Derin

This was sent to me:

Our Mystery Shoppers Inc © is a company that conducts surveys and stealth
evaluation of companies and organisations. Our mystery shoppers pose as normal
customers to perform specific tasks such as purchasing a product, asking
questions, registering complaints or behaving in a certain way and then
providing detailed reports or feedback about their experiences.

Unlike the methodologies used in mainstream market research mystery shopping
attempts to gauge the service delivery process instead of the service result.
You are to visit businesses to evaluate.

These evaluations are done anonymously, with you posing as a regular customer.
After which you are required to complete a detailed critique, including a
detailed written summary/story line of the visit, customer services and product,
salesmanship, hospitality. Etc

Examples of details you would forward to us are :

1) How long it took you to get services.
2) Smartness of the attendant
3) Customer service professionalism
4) Sometimes you might be required to ruffle the attendant a bit, to see how
they react to clients when under pressure. And we turn the information over to
the company executives and they would carry out their own duties in improving
there services.

After which we customize your evaluation criteria to meet the goals and
expectations this companies have established for their customers. We then
communicate your results back to the companies in an accurate, comprehensive and
timely manner.
Most companies employ our assistance when people give complains about their
services, or when they feel there are needs for them to improve their customer
service.

Your Identity would be kept confidential as the job states (secrets shopper) you
would be paid $300 for every duty you carry out, and bonus on your
transportation allowance, and funds would be given to you if you have to dine as
part of the duty.
Your job will be to evaluate and comment on customer service in a wide variety
of shops, stores, restaurant and services in your area. No commitment is made on
this job, and you would have flexible hours as it suits you. If you are
interested do send in your full name contact address and telephone number, so we
can find assignment areas that are close to you and would suit you and offer you
flexibility, your address would also be needed for your payments.

I would have to put you down in our data base system as one of our numerous
agents, And you would be covering your area, and some close cities near you, you
would find this job very interesting and rewarding. An acceptance e mail would
be sent to you, we have evaluation activities around your city that is why we
need your services I would have to get you the full details of the services
which you would have to partake in. I would like to know what your schedule is
so I know what days to fix you in. As soon as you are accepted for this job, you
would be given full details of the activities you have to carry out, and you
would be told what to keep for records, and your payment information would be
included in the mail.

If you are still interested, Please reply this e mail to seaconsultin@aol.com
with the following information :-

Full Name:

This scam is still going on, fortunately I google'd Frank James, who I was contacted by and received 2 money orders for $995 each and instructions to shop @ Wal-Mart and Western Union.

When I seen the amounts of the checks, I was weary!!! Who sends just anyone that amount of money? I especially did not like the request to deposit the money orders, which are issued through the United States Postal Office, into my personal account.

I google'd Frank James and found this website, I am glad to know there are others and that it was posted and forewarned. I see that many of these posts are from years ago, but I wanted to post that it is March of 2012 and this scam is still going on with the name Frank James as a contact. :(

I am glad you found this web site and was spared being scammed. Please spread the word to your family and friends about scams. Shawn, admin of this site, started a petition you may want to sign. The link is in her siggy.
