Well... I found these guys on Craigslist, too. This is a really helpful site; I started searching around to find some kind of good reference to the company that sent me a reply e-mail. The e-mail was asking for some stuff that was just way to personal for me to send out all willy nilly, ya know? I had to dig pretty deep to find something concretely stating these guys were a scam! In fact, I found them on Hotjobs before I found this site. I e-mailed Yahoo about it and plan on flagging it on Craiglist AND alerting their Great Britain internet provider to it. I think it's AWFUL what they're doing, the infamous internet scamming, check forging "they". I don't want to give them my information, in fact I want to e-mail them back and tell them off, but I'd like a little advice on what I could do with the contact information I have, like maybe turn it over to someone before I've tipped them off?
Anyhow, here's a copy of the e-mail I got back (btw, improper grammar and non-professional word usage is a BIG indicator of scam e-mail!!!):

Hello

We are a company that conduct surveys and evaluate other companies. We get hired to go to other peoples companies and act like customers in order to know how the staffs are handling their services in relation to their customers. once we have a contract to do, so you would be directed to the company or outlet, and you would be given the funds you need to do the job(either purchase things or require services), after which you would write a comment on the staffs activities and give a detailed record of your experience.

examples of details you would forward to us are
1) How long it took you to get services.
2) Smartness of the attendant
3)Customer service professionalism
4)Sometimes you might be required to upset the attendant, to see how they react to clients when they get tensed(under pressure) and we turn the information over to the company executives and they would carry out their own duties in improving there services.

Most companies employ our assistance when people give complaints about their services, or when they feel there are needs for them to improve their customer service. Your Identity would be kept confidential as the job states (secret shopper) you would be paid $100 for every survey you carry out, and bonus on your transportation allowance, and funds would be given to you if you have to dine as part of the duty.

Your job will be to evaluate and comment on customer service in a wide variety of shops, stores, restaurant and services in your area. No commitment is made on this job, and you would have flexible hours as it suits you. If you are interested , you have to fill the list below so we can look at your distance from the locations which you have to put your service into, and your address would also be needed for your payments.

Before you fill the list below make sure you read the INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR AGREEMENT attached to this mail before you will fill the application .

It was sent by a Trevor Jackson with the e-mail tjackson01@btinternet.com.
That is a British internet provider, describes as very popular which makes me guess it a free e-mail service something like the equivalent of gmail or yahoo.

I did my homework after they asked for personal information up front, which we should all get in the habit of doing. Luckily I found something, but I feel like it's worth mentioning that even if I had found nothing bad said, if I didn't find anything solid to give them credibility as a company I would have also stayed away. If anyone ever has any questions about an internet company, definitely google them, see if they have a site and see what they say about themselves. I found the site for this company on Hotjobs.com which was advertising internet surveys and not much else, but they did say they had been in business since 2001 (if that was actually their site, which I doubt.). So I got practically no information on them searching, and I then went to the Better Business Bureau website. They have a tool that lets you search companies in their database. I found them under a name that was slightly different from the one in my e-mail which they had used in Hotjobs. They had a rating of F. Not so good, in fact the worst. They had known about them since Dec. 2008 and had too little information on them, and they were asking for information that anyone had. If I hadn't found your site I wouldn't have know the extent to which involvement was a bad idea, but with these types of searching techniques I can still protect myself simply with the absence of information.

I hope that is helpful!

I am glad that you did find this site, and that you posted the email, mailing address and email address that the scammers are using. These are all things that people may google, and it could help to save someone else.

If anyone gets an email where the scammer says that you are being hired to secret shop Western Union, or they say that they work for Western Union, all of those emails (with full header) need to be forwarded to spoof@westernunion.com

If they did not mention WU specifically, and you just want to pass the information on to someone else that would be willing to "mess with the scammer" I would suggest going to http://419eater.com/
The people there are scam baiters.

I recently fell for this, and now I am having a very hard time with my bank. I was told to shop at wal mart, and send money gram to whomever, and a check arrived.
I deposited it into my Chase account, and few days later, I saw that the check did not go through, so I called my bank. They told me that my account was for closure, due to fraudulent activity. I reported the check fraud, but it was too late. I asked them if there was anything I could do, to keep the bank without closing, but they told me I had no option.
So I decided to go to another bank, to open up a new account. When I was sitting down with a representative, and giving out my information, she told me I could not open a new account, because I am listed in the high risk fraudulent.
She told me that anywhere else I go to a bank to open a new account, the same notification would come up.
She also mentioned the notice would go away, but does anybody know how long it takes for the fraudulent notice would go away, so I can open up a new bank account again? Thank you so much for your help.

Location: Houston, Tx.
I am having the pleasure of dealing with SurveyJobNet in a Walmart Money Gram scam. All necessary paperwork to fulfill this job was precise and official looking. I received my check for $3600.00 via certified mail from USPS with the instructions to endore the check, fill out the deposit slip, put in the envelope and drop it in the ATM deposit slot. $3,050.00 is to be sent via Money Gram. Knowing this is a scam and thanks to this site for confirming my suspicisons, I took the check to my bank to get their take on the situation. An employee there checked the check out and it does not have a correct routing number. Their tellers are aware of these types of scams and usually ask questions, especially if it is an elderly person, from making a big mistake. The reason for the ATM drop is because the check is processed without any concern. He told me to keep the worthless check as a souviner :D.

Go to a small credit union, many of the smaller institutions do not subscribe to the Chexsystems.

This is right from the MSPA site

Quote:
I received a check that I am to deposit, then do a mystery shopping assignment; I want to know if it is legitimate.

No, any offer that you receive asking you to cash a check and then wire money is almost certain to be an illegitimate offer. For more on the check scam and what you should do please see the following: http://www.mysteryshop.org/shoppers/Warning.html

I googled the name to see if this was actually true and came across this site. It sounds a little different than most of the stories I read but I saw the same name on one of the stories so I thought I should send in the information. I have been the victim of a scam before. I did eventually get the money back for that one but it took about 5 years or so. Now I check out everything. I hope this helps.

Hello, I received the same email. but the difference as the name on I was meant to send the money to. This one was to HENRY MARADONA ANARADO I think they use different names. because no i d is required to pick up money at some western union locations. all they need is the MTCN number. Be careful. The names are all Hoax's and fakes. They never use real names

NEW SCAM!!!

I was sent a letter from "Wal-mart mystery shoppers inc." stating what I need to do and it also included a check for $3,500 well instead of sending the money back to them via Money Gram they tell you to send it to someone you know but call them as soon as you send it so they can verify you were not charged too much. SO l looked into it more and I have many many resources in lawenforcement and when you call them back they will ask for the money gram info and pick it up befor the person it was sent to can pick it up. so they get their money either way. Man they are terribly smart I am so glad I looked into this prior to cashing this check. I do not need to owe money to anyone but the other sneaky thing is. The check they gave me is a ligit account and routing number but the bank would not veryify the funds so I am sure it would have bounced. Good luck to you all whom have fallen victim. I would have if it wasnt for my prior info. from my dad.
