This is a copycat of the TNT scam, using the French delivery service TNT, uses laptops and Plasma TV's as bait, claims to be Beck Carl, an environmental consultant in Topsfield, MA, or PLANO, TX

SCAM!!! 15" Apple Powerbook G4 1.5ghz 1G 80G EXTRAS $550

Don't fall for this garbage! Here's the email I received from "Beck Carl" in "Plano Texas"

My name is Beck Carl and I live in Plano, Texas .The item is new with 12 months warranty(with all standard accessories ) . It is an unwanted gift, bought for my birthday and I want to sell it asap!
Here is how I want to go about delivery and payment for the product which will be through Chronopost and will also give you the chance to inspect the product before I receive the payment for it.
I will explain to you step by step how this will work.
A. First you have to send me your shipping information (your name and address).
1. After I have received your shipping info, I'll go to a Chronopost Location and I will leave the
product onto your name and address as the intended receiver.
2. Chronopost will check it to see that the unit was placed with all the papers and to see that is legal.
B. You will receive a notification from Chronopost as a confirmation that the product is in their custody and also, that the product has been tested.
1.Chronopost will send you an invoice, and if everything is in order, they will deliver the product to your door step.
2. After you will receive the product and you will be completely satisfied with it, you will instruct Chronopost to release the payment information to me, so I can collect my money.
C. If by any reason, you will not be satisfied with the product, you will return the product to Chronopost with no expenses.
I will pay for the shipping and you for fee for the transferred amount .
Let me know if we can do this!

I received the following after I inquired about a laptop on Craigs List which was just posted within the last couple of day...I hope no one goes for this. Thank goodness for Google, I had no idea what Chronopost was which is how I found this site. I hope the proper authorities are onto this creep.

I just narrowly escaped sending $1,400 to Beck Carl for a Mac Book Pro laptop. I came across the listing on Craigs list. The listing looked exactly like the one below. Just before completing the transaction, I contacted Chronopost and before I finished my sentence the operator said, "Scam!"
Remember if something is too good to be true, it probably is. Thank God my wife drilled this into my head and made me Google this joker.

Use caution.

I took the time to register on this site to update the history of scams - I inquired about a macbook pro in San Francisco and received this response from fero e [feroledaplu@gmail.com] . I didn't do more than a search on chronopost. Beware. Anyone know of a good way to alert local authorities to this guy?

Almost fell for this scam

He now offers a camera set (Canon EOS 40D +tons of accessories) under the name Martin Sanchez for only 800€ on a site in Switzerland (and probably elsewhere too). The content of the email is exactly the same as above, just machine translated to german.
I googled for "chronopost payment" to see if such a service even exists. Then I found this site. Lucky me.

Nikon D700 scam. I spotted this scam yesterday (16 June 2009) while checking out a Nikon D700 (€800, about half the going rate), supposedly being sold out of Bern, Switzerland. I live close to Bern, so I was prepared to go and see it for myself before making any commitments. However, the "owner" sent an e-mail from a .uk address claiming to be a student in London, and giving me the exact instructions cited above (but in French) for my Chronopost scam payment. "Martin Sanchez" (scam name) is common enough that any complaints are likely to be buried deep in any Google search results.

Just offhand, placing the word "scam" next to each relevant term increases the odds that a Google search result will show the two terms together. To the other people who've posted notes on this scammer, thanks for your input.

Thank God I found this thread. I just came in contact with this individual on Craigslist. I came across an extremely low priced MacBook Pro which immediately raised my guard. Then I received the exact same email instructions mentioned earlier, about Chronopost. I had never heard of Chronopost so I began a google search. Then I found this thread. He is now using the name Daniel Sanchez. This was his explaination for being unable to make a deal in person...

Are you interested in buying my product? The price for my item is 700 usd,all included. My item is new,in excellent condition and I am the first owner, everything is OK.
Now I am in London / Uk, because here is my family and my university.

I doubt I would have ended up following up on the email but I did think it sounded plausible. The lower price was my main reason for hesitating because it didn't make sense if the computer was in excellent condition.

I had to join and add on to this thread in hopes of preventing more people from making a costly mistake. And thank you to all who posted earlier... you saved me $700!
