Whoever sent you this should take some of their ill-gotten gains and invest in a globe. After all, Canada is part of North America, and has been for quite some time....

The day after I got out of jail for bulgus charges on me as the VICTIM of a scam , I got a call from a British Columbia number by a man who identified himself as Mr Marshall of the law firm of Rosenblum and Stein in sydney Australia. Said I won 18 M in a lottery in australia 21 days prior and they finally had tracked me down to let me know I am now a winner and millionaire.

Highly on guard at this point I saw it for what it was worth, a total scam but I played along with him and got address information and names , he said my money was being held in my name with Truly International Payout services, which by the way has a phone number exactly one digit off from Rosemblum and Stein, and when I called it back the same Mr Marshall answered hahahahaha Whoops what a lamer.

The minute he asked for my bank account information and informed me that I had to forward " Procurement" fees of 1200.00 ahead of settling the payout I lowered the boom on him.

Told him :
1. He was NOT in australia, he was in Canada
2. He did not have an aussie accent, nor a canadian accent but rather a Nigerian Accent.
3. That he was a Lowlife , good for nothing, roach of a scammer and to NEVER call me again EVER.

I think I might of made him mad, I never got my money, and alas am NOT a millionaire, incact im bankrupted at the hands of a county and state who do not know how to seperate Victim from Criminal.

Man they get your name once and you are done for, they will try EVERYTHING they can to scam you and get VERY devious in the ever so long quest.

Hey if you are a nigerian scammer and you are reading this post :

BITEME

Sincerely,

Scammers Worst Nightmare hahah

Actually, the lotto scam is a big thing, most originate out of Amsterdam it seems. A friend of a friend here locally got taken for 2,800 bucks on this one. Call came from Canada as well. Probably the same person that called you Karyn.

Rhonda, do not fall for it.
Ask yourself... did I enter a lottery? hmmm. NO
Then ask yourself, why do they want my banking information? Why can't they just send me a check? It is because they want your banking information to clean your account dry.
Dont' fall for it, you'll be sorry!

Thousands (possibly millions) of people have.
Lottery scams are very much the 'in thing' across Europe.
They are increasing in popularity with the scammers because they are a quickly executed scam. Part of the scammers tactics with this type of scam is to get you to act fast for fear of losing your 'winnings' before the stipulated deadline.

All one needs to ask with this type of scam is "how many people have actually won millions in a lottery that they never entered?"
With that in mind one is prompted to wonder why so many people actually fall victim to this widespread scam.

That is not the reason why they ask for your banking information.
I do not know of that happening.(the draining of a bank account)
The reason that they ask for banking information is to build a confidence in you that they will actually be paying money into your bank account.
It's all just part of the psychology of the scam.

For the sake of accuracy I don't think they want your account number to drain it dry as their request is more to set up a smokescreen for the next big whammy... asking you to wire money for fees the true stinger in this scam.

Most of the lotto scam letters I get make it a point to say the account can even be empty.

These guys are idiots, I play them all the time always giving bad account numbers, swift codes and other bogus information and nobody has ever called me on it yet.

Of course I am not saying it is alright to give them any real personal information because it isn't.

Interestingly, there is an advertisement running on UK TV at the moment, from a financial insitution whose name escapes me at the moment, where they use these Lotto scams as an example of how not to look after you money or, rather, if you don't look after you money, someone else will.

I just received the attached letter, verbatim, except for the name of the contact person and the options you have for receiving the funds. The perpetrators have said they will issue a certified bank check in additon to the other aforementioned methods of payment. I AM SO GLAD I CAME TO THIS SITE. I figured it was a scam but getting the info you've provided confirmed my suspicions.
