Wells Fargo is paying for one year of ID Guard membership for many of its customers because of a computer theft at one of its consultants in California. Data on the stolen computer included customer names, Social Security Numbers and account numbers.
The computer was later found, a man was arrested, and the bank says data was apparently not compromised.
Nonetheless, they are still taking several steps to make sure customers know they are victims.
They won't say how many people are affected, but I'd bet it is hundreds of thousands if not more.
