Hello, everyone. I am new at this group.
My husband and I are in a process of buying a used vehicle on one of the car websites. This seller is actually out of state. He asked us to use the above escrow co. and pay $2900. I have the vin # of the vehicle, pictures. But then, I am hesitant to do this kind of deal due to the fact I don't even know if this seller is legit. If he's actually using his actual name. I tried looking at other sites for me to find out who the actual registered owner of the said vehicle- i found some but, I had to pay.
And this guy is actually selling his vehicle way below the value and yes, he is shipping it on his expense..... Yes, I've read that this is actually one of the signs that it is FRAUD. But, need advise. The car is great!!!
Need help, please!!!

Thanks so much!!!

Ellie

Ask him if you can use another escrow company . . . one of YOUR choice. That way you can search one out and find a legit one, and if he is legit he will be fine with that. If he says it HAS to be the site HE picked or no deal, then I would say don't do it.

I was hoping you could tell me what you ended up doing in regards to USA Vehicle Traders as an escrow service. My situation is exactly the same as yours. Seller out of state - car is a GREAT deal - the seller seems legit and all the car info checks out - I just didn't feel comfortable sending that much money via Western Union to a company that didn't list a phone number on their website. I just emailed the seller to ask about using a different escrow service that I found (http://www.escrow.com) and am waiting to hear his reply. I just wanted to see what happened with your transaction to see if it helps me at all with what to do.

Let me know - thanks!!!

Hello, Erika.
I suggested another escrow co. --www.escrow. com- he actually told me that he rather have u.s. vehicle trader because his friend used it with no problem. And then he said he never even heard of escrow.com--
so I responded to him about u.s. vehicle trader is not even in the BBB as he said (http://www.usvehicletraders.com)- after that no response from him eversince. It was just so weird that I didn't hear from him again since we've been e-mailing back and forth for 2 days.
This is not for the 2001 Jeep Wrangler is it? From Florida-- Daniel Tran?
This was the guys name I was dealing with? --Well, wilh these scammers anyway they can change the state, names.
Goodluck.

Well I have since emailed him suggesting that we use http://www.escrow.com and I have yet to hear back and based on your experience, I doubt I will. He listed the car locally and then when I contacted him he claimed he just moved to Miami, FL but he would ship it at his own expense. The car I was looking at was a 2000 Audi A6 Avant and it was a really great price - especially if he paid for the shipping. I just found another similar listing for an Audi A6 locally so I emailed that guy, Doug instead of Steve this time, and I got the exact same I moved to Miami response from him. When I said I wanted to fly out there, pay in person and then take it to be shipped he came back with a reply of how the escrow service is more preferred as if that makes any sense to a valid seller.

I just thought it was weird that there were no phone #s to call at USVehicle Traders and I can't find them listed anywhere so I didn't go through with it although I almost did.

Hope you ended up finding something you liked that wasn't a scam!
Thanks for your help - I feel even more confident in my decision.

Thanks!
Eriika

My listing was actually local as well, Pasadena, CA.
No phone # listed just e-mail. Then finding out he said he'n now in Miami, Fl got married with his wife. Yup, no contact info for US. Vehicle Traders- just through e-mail.

Use common sense.
If someone suggests a fake escrow site and you bother to ask him to use a legitimate one you are opening yourself up to be spoofed.
Don't kid yourself.
If someone sends you to a fake escrow site their sole intention is to RIP YOU OFF.
DO NOT have any further communicaton with the scammer.
They are known to send browser hijacking files to make it appear you are going to a legitimate escrow site.
They will also send emails that appear to be from a legitimate site.
REPORT REPORT REPORT.
Report the scammer.
Report the listing.
Report the fake web site.
